    Notifications for quotes

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by thirdwind, Jun 7, 2013.

I recently started getting a notification every time someone quotes me in a post. Is there a way to turn this feature off? I tried looking in Settings but couldn't find anything.

The same thing suddenly started happening to me! It never happened before today, and I don't think it's necessary. Did something change in the forum software?

@thirdwind @minstrel I made some changes today, one which allowed you to mention a user with the @ sign and notify them, I believe. Thoughts on this? This particular change gave notifications for both quotes and "mentions." I think I've disabled the notifications for these features for the time being - at least for quotes - though I will likely re-add it in the future with the option to change the settings.

The notify thing I'm fine with, but I'm not a big fan of the quote notifications. It would be awesome to have the option to disable both of these notifications.

I agree, and this might be possible. I'll look into it. ;)

I think the option to disable is a good idea. The basic idea you have, Daniel, is good, but today I wound up with several different notifications for being quoted in the same thread by the same member several times - that's probably overdoing it.

I'm not sure how I would handle this yet, if I were doing it myself. I wish I had an idea to give you, but I don't (yet!).

No worries. I agree that quote notifications is probably a bit much - especially when it's more than once per thread. Maybe just having notification for the user tagging is better because it probably won't be used as much, and when it's used it's addressing you specifically.

One other feature I'm likely going to add in the near future is a Thanks/Like button for posts. There was a discussion about this a while back and most people seemed to support it. Just some insider info. ;)

    Awesome. Thanks.

I like this feature. It might also be useful to allow people to sort posts in a thread based on the number of likes. This would make it easier to find the best response(s) in a really long thread.

I like the idea of a like button and a mention feature. Those both seem really cool.

The notifications for quotes seems like it might be good, but only if there was an option to disable it.

Nice work with the site tho Daniel! It's running a lot smoother lately :D

Thanks for noticing! I've been taking measures to increase site speed and reduce database errors and server load. It's not perfect yet but I think there's been some improvement.
