    Novel-in-Stories vs Interconnected Stories vs Linked Stories

    Okay, I'm having a hard time distinguishing the meaning between a "Novel-in-Stories" from 'Interconnected Stories" and "Linked Stories".

    So can anyone tell me what is the difference between the three

    And hows does one know which of the three would they collection of stories fits best being called

    Huh, that's a good question and I'll be watching out for the responses. I've been calling my first two books "kind of a series but not really", and it only just struck me from your thread that there must be a name for it. :D The two are standalone with no overarching plots, but the two different MCs are best friends. MC1 has a very minor supporting-friend role in book 2, and vice versa. Whether that would be interconnected or linked, I don't know.

    So its quite like Sherlock Homes or Poirrot in that sense - a bunch of stories about a specific character but which are all stand alone.

    Kind of, but the books have different main characters. So sort of a spin-off where Sherlock Holmes or Poirot make a guest appearance?

    Oh ok kind of like making a set of stories about LeStrade and including Sherlock in those investigations he can't figure out for himself
