And that'll just have to be me! Hi everyone, my name is Dean and I'm dipping my slightly crusty toes into the world of writing. It's always been an ambition of mine to write, but until recently I, quite wrongly as it happens, believed my grammar and punctuation would prevent me producing anything worth reading. But still I had this urge... so, I bit the metaphorical bullet and wrote a short story based on a dream I'd had. It turned out OK, as far as I could see, and people made favourable noises. Mmm, maybe there's something in this? Anyway, my fiancee has been encouraging me to practice by giving me a topic every morning which I then have to write a page on. This, I've found, is a great way to get into the swing of writing every day without the pressure of producing a novel. I have CFS/ME so often find concentration an issue. I've only been doing this for just over a week, but find it rather therapeutic. I just hope there's somewhere to go with it. I'm looking forward to sharing with all of you and being an active member of the community. Blessings, Dean
Hello, Dean. I like your writing techniques, and hopefully you'll be able to keep at it, the world does need writers! Welcome!
Hi there, Dean! Don't let punctuation and grammar hold you back - you'll become more familiar with those as you write. It's the quality of the writing that's important.
Hullo Dean, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Hello Dean, welcome to the family. If you really want to practice daily creativity, try to take the Golden Orb, it's under Word Games. Also, mingle in our lounge, hit Raven's Tavern for some interesting conversation with the other members. But most of all, have fun. May your words flow, and your keys never strike back.
Welcome, Dean! Hopefully you enjoy your time here. I usually lurk around the poetry review forum, and if you need anything-feel free to PM me. -Tarnished
Ahh. welcome Dean. This is a very welcoming community (As you can see from the posts above ^^) and I hope you have a great time.
Again, I'll just say a big thank you to everyone who's posted above. I hope I can offer something to the community that enriches it.
