It has been suggested to me that I begin a discussion thread. This seems to me an excellent idea and it looks like it's the standard operating procedure around here. So have at it hoss Oh, update, I am developing certain things to help develop the universe of my game and give it some flesh. Let me know if I am giving too many details when I begin, but I'll try to keep it divided into sections. Exampes: 1)Timeline - I wanna try to give you guys an idea of all the things that happened between the present up until the 23rd century to explain how things got where they got. This may also give a little peek into the complexity of the galaxy. Timeline 2)Colonies - Brief descriptions of the colonies from Mercury to Triton in the Sol system to the farthest flung planet in the galactic commonwealth. This may take me some time, there are actually over a hundred real extrasolar planets now that have been discovered and I'm doing heavy research to keep up. Conceptually the galactic commonwealth goes out as far as 50 light years or so, with new colonies being made and maybe even old ones being discovered. Ceres Europa Alpha Centauri and Sirius 61 Cygni 3)United Earth Armed Forces - I want to give you guys a good understanding of the depth of the UEAFs, your new family. There are perhaps dozens of fleets and hundreds of ships. That's just the Aerospace Force alone, there are other elements to the United Earth defense force, and other colonies (especially Mars) will have beefy militaries to nearly rival it. UEAF Rank structure UESS Athena 4)Other characters - I would prefer to introduce new characters through the story as we roleplay, but some people may just be well known or even infamous in the galaxy. There are pirates in the galaxy after all (marauders), and among them may be a few "Blackbeards" to be warned of. The Baroness Marauders 5)Missions - I am developing a list of possible missions for either individuals to be assigned on, or as a group/team/crew. It's completely up to you, or if you choose you can do no missions and just freely explore the galaxy. Heck, if you wanted to you could even go AWOL and become mercernaries, it's your game. located at the bottom of this page 6)Glossary - Again, by making a list of terms and things in my galaxy it can give you guys ideas and help visualize the scope of it. Glossary A-M Glossary N-Z 7)Aliens - there are going to be aliens in the game, but the intelligent aliens won't make their appearnce until later in the game. As of the twenty fourth century humans have still not yet officially made first contact. Nevertheless, life is pervasive throughout the galaxy, and there are a number of various flora and fauna in various star systems. Aliens 8)Weapons - between the Junior Officers' handbook and a few odd posts most of the weapons will be found here, the idea is that there are a mix of ballistics and energy based weapons. Please feel free to invent some of your own or make suggestions. Weapons I'm also working on a "UEAF Junior Officers' Training Manual", with all kinds of cool little goodies, including a basic map of the galaxy. UEAF Junior Officers' Training Manual Feel free to give suggestions and feedback, and I'll meet you back at the thread UPDATE: As requested the following is a long list of the characters we have so far: Players: NRG Name: Nathan Brown Gender: Male Age: 22 Appearance: Nathan is average weight and wears exactly what he's told to with extreme neatness. He's got short brown hair and brown eyes. He's quite tall. Personality: Nathan takes extreme pride in his reputation in the military. He would never disobey even the smallest of orders. He likes to be the leader of groups, however he isn't too bossy. He does his best to get along with everybody. Background: Nathan grew up on Earth and had always dreamed of space. As a child he would often be found reading books about the moon or how space-travel worked. Naturally, when he was old enough he wanted to reach the stars so he joined Aerospace. Role: Operations/Mission planning Lebby Name: David Carter Gender: Male Age: 19 Appearence: Carter has thick black hair (strictly non regulation) cut just above his sky blue eyes. He has a sharp nose contrasted against his large lips. Late night writing marathons and wild parties account for the dark sleep rings that mar his otherwise handsome face. He has a pale complexion, with a light birthmark on the left side of his face. This is often mistaken for a fake tan, or dirty smudge. Carter is taller than average, with a long neck, and thin torso. His uniform is usually neat, with an underlying layer of shabbiness. A stain on his shirt, and a couple buttons undone are common blemishes on Carters dress sense. Personality: Carter fancies himself as the charming, dashing rogue who arrives, sweeps the ladies off their feet, before disappearing into the night leaving swooning woman, and jealous men. In reality he can usually be found under the table, lying in a pool of vomit at one of the many parties he attends afterhours. (Admittedly he has taken many woman to his bed, although he has a morbid fear of a long term relationship). His dishevelled appearence and unprofessional antics would lead to any other recruit being discharged, fortunately for Carter his doting father is a higher up, and is constantly pulling strings to keep Carter out of trouble. Carter is dramatic, over the top, funny and cheerful at nearly all times. He never saw the appeal of not being nice to everyone he meets, and therefore he makes friends easily. When Carter isn't at the centre of attention, training (or skiving off his duties) he is writing. Carter writes novels, short stories, satires, rants, poems, or just his thoughts. He carries a notepad full of ideas at all times, and his spontaneous nature means that the scribbling of Carters pen is a common sound in his company. Carter accepts the authority of those he likes, and scorns the authority of those who he deems to have not earned his respect. Carter also has a habit of stating his opinion like its the only one that matters, this has lead to a number of arguments with those he cares about, although deep down he believes everyone is equal. Background: With a father in the Navy it was always expected that Carter would sign up (Although it took a whole year for his father to drag him away from his rampant partying just after highschool). Carter never knew his mother, and has no intention of meeting her. For the past few years Carter's natural intelligence, fathers input (although Carter puts it down to his own charm) have landed Carter into the navy with high results across the board. He specialises in piloting single man fighters, sharpshooting and diplomacy. Carter can fill the role of leader quite naturally if the situation calls for it. Role: Aerospace pilot Flash81 Name: Adam "Dogface" Dennet Gender: Male Age: 36 Appearance: Dogface received his nickname for the obvious reasons. I mean, he doesn't resemble a dog; he's just ugly. His nose appears to have been broken on more than one occasion, and his left ear is severely deformed. These, along with his other scars, are badges earned from brawls both won and lost in nearly equal measure. Aside from some nasty scaring, Adam is otherwise normal. There is a moto tattoo on his upper right arm that he claims to regret, but refuses to have removed. He stands a little shy of six feet, and weighs approximately one hundred and ninety pounds. There isn't a lick of fat on him due the physical demands of his current profession. Apparently, his brown hair hasn't met a comb in years, and his beard is never shorter than a five-o-clock shadow. Personality: Adam's always been a little abrasive. It's not that he wants to be a jerk, his brain just works a bit different. Most people need some time to acclimatize to his personality, but once this is accomplished they tend to remain friends for a long time. Background: Adam joined the UEAF when he was twenty-two years old. He went UA when he was twenty-five. He had one day decided that he was too much of a free spirit to remain in the service. Adam spent several years on the lam, and tried his hand at many jobs. Around five years ago, Adam came to Ceres and found a job he could live with. That job is mining. During the three years he served in the military, he was under the command of one TO1 Gunther, otherwise known as Pappy. (The guy couldn't have been a day over thirty, so Adam never understood the reasoning behind the nickname.) If everyone in his chain of command was as respectable as Pappy, Dogface probably wouldn't have gone UA in the first place. You'll never hear him admit that, however. Role: Civilian liaison Cogito Name: Jesca Turner Gender: female Age: Thirties Appearance: About 5'10", dark skinned, short straight black hair, wiry build, and my eyes are up HERE, dirtbag! The scar? That's my business. Personality: Depends who you ask. I've been called lotsa things. Some have called me a thief 'n a liar - most of them is missing some teeth. Some've called me a ragin' bitch - those are my friends. Ain't no one calls me a pushover, though. Background: A solo "rock rat" miner, Jescah has her own mining ship, and she earns enough of a living prospecting astroids to keep her in food, water, fuel, and oh-two. And to set a little aside for bad times. Role: N/A; loner Leaka Name: Mortimer Iah; Nickname: Mort or Morty (if you're friends enough) Gender: Male Age: 24 Appearance: His eyes are golden, but they appear as cloudy and foggy as a winter day. His hair is silver, and sheens like metal, but it feels as soft as hair should be. His skin is pale and he looks peaky most times. He wears an essence about him that seems somewhat lost in his head. His clothes generally consist of a black vest made of synthetic material, a sweater with a hood. Black slacks and black combat boots. On his face is the reminder of all his troubles. A burn mark. Personality: Mort isn't exactly the best of people to know. He's extremely introverted and he appears to be inside his head at times. He's a bit airy and spacey and can jump from topics that no one was even talking about. Despite these downsides though Mortimer appears to be a very lonely and sad soul. He seems lost and seems to make himself wonder around a lot of the time. He is also very sinister person with a very cold heart. Mort has the tendency to scratch at his burn scar, making it fester and becoming infected. Simply because there may be more than physical pain, but psychological pain. Its as if the burn is the physical manifestation of everything he holds inside himself. Mort isn't very trusting of people, he's been viewed differently because of what is on his face and thus he simply has become less open with people. Mort isn't as closed off as some think, treat him well and he is a very kind person. Background: In a small community Mortimer had grown up. It was one of those places, which is very hard to find in these days, where everyone knew everyone. The community was slowly being rebuilt however and one efficient way was the use of nuclear energy. Mortimer spent most of his life a book worm. He didn't much think about the military nor did he think of joining any forces. He did at one point in time want to be an astronomer. However, maybe his thoughts have changed since the accident. The nuclear plant running and being active got into some problems and exploded. It caused fires and left many dead. Mortimer doesn't remember much from then. All he has left is the picture of the scar on his face. Mortimer spent most of his life after that somewhat searching. Somewhat homeless. Somewhat lost and alone. Recently he found himself a nice little bunker to stay the night in. However, he hadn't realized this bunker moved. As the bunker moved he found himself stuck on a Aerospace Force squad ship. This was of course a little illegal and an oh no moment. He was founded, but currently they aren't holding him as prisoner. All though not military personal he has been asked to make himself useful. Thesilverdepths Name: Oliver Davis Gender: Male Age: 24 Occupation: Detective Height: 5'11'’ Weight: 160 lbs Appearance: Oliver wears a black leather long-coat, standard issue, and where he keeps his badge. Underneath that, a white collar long sleeve shirt, dark pants and dress shoes. Under a fringe of black hair are his piercing, forest green eyes. He has a lithe physique, and can hold his own in the event of confrontation. Personality: Det. Davis has a calm and stoic demeanor. His deduction skills are well known on Ceres, and have put him at the forefront of many high profile cases. Towards people he is cordial and very to-the-point, and has no trouble making friends (or informants he needs information from). Although with criminals he is persistent and calculated, in the most dire situations he will risk his own well being. Background: Oliver graduated from the Ceres Police academy at 22, and has had two years of field experience. His last case had him at the red light district, where he foiled a serial murderer’s killing spree. Now he is stiff on the trail of an organ thief guild, and uncovering clues to something bigger…
I think this could be pretty fun, although, I won't jump in until I finish with Crimson Rose. Is it okay if I hope in a bit late? Also, this is the Archive. The Archive is like a morgue. DEAD things go here. Dead things we study and refer to. It's like a bunch of dead bodies pickled in formaldehyde. Might want to contact Ocean or Cogito and get that fixed.
Of course, you can hop in whenever you want! I would be honored. And thanks for the warning, I wasn't sure where to put the discussion thread but I knew it would be important. Thanks Cog, you're the angel on our shoulders:redface:
MISSIONS Remember, these are just ideas. No one has to go along with these missions, I'm just making them available at the time because it may help with brainstorming for stories, helping us visualize the galaxy, etc. The missions can be conducted as a single agent, or in a group. It's completely up to you. The Gordian Knot - A small unit of Aerospace Marines is stranded on a far flung planet of the Commonwealth and attempting to defend a colony against well armed mercenaries. They must be given reinforcements quickly or else they will be overrun and the colonists will be left defenseless... The Sword of Damocles - The ATLAS Earth defense grid has malfunctioned (or been sabotages by sinister agencies) The UEAF must defend Earth from its own safety net by disabling weapons satellites or destroying them before they begin targeting innocent civilians... Operation: Steel Saber - Headquarters of the UEAF wants to conduct a combined force training exercise with the allies of the Alpha Centauri system. While conducting their training exercises the combined fleets encounter a real threat, a fleet of marauders attempting to sneak into the Centauri system while the heavy ships seem to be busy.... Snake in the Grass - The infamous Serpens fleet is one of the “lost” fleets. While once a reputable and respected unit they have fallen from grace and gone renegade. They are now warriors for hire and will work for anyone if the price is right. They must be stopped and brought to justice before they use UEAF weapons against potential innocent colonists, there are no shortage of despots wanting to purchase their services... The Sleeping Dragon - A relic from the archaic days of sub-light speed spaceflight is arriving in the system, a massive warship designed to kill planet Earth! The ship was sent by old enemies of United Earth, the colonists of a rival system during the first interstellar war (the hundred years' war). The Juggernaut was an experimental ship equipped with stealth technology and a large payload of nuclear weapons, long ago lost in space and presumed missing. The crew are in a state of suspended animation and will have no idea that the war they were intending to fight has been over for over a century... The Hornet’s Nest - A colony vital to the galactic economy has been so severely mismanaged by its leaders that its social structure is on the verge of collapse and revolution. The rebels have a charismatic, messiah-like leader, who threatens to cripple the galaxy if the needs of his people are not met... Faded Giant - The flagship of a colony world’s space navy has been lost in space due to unknown circumstances. The crew is long overdue and presumed dead, but it is much worse than that. The ship has a very volatile reactor that needs to be accounted for or else the fate of the colonists may be in peril. The UEAF is asked to help the Commonwealth allies recover the ship, crew if possible, and deal with the deadly reactor... Rise of the AI - Cognitive, artificially intelligent robots scheduled for termination have breached security and escaped Earth. Someone must be sent to track the robots down and return them to Earth, as they are a potential security risk because of their knowledge... Life-form - Headquarters wants to send some escorts for a group of civilian scientists and contractors to a planet with a bizarre organomettalic lifeform. They want the creatures captured alive if possible, but the bugs are intelligent, and have a hive that does not like being interfered with... The Chrome Brigade - there have always been rumors that in deep space there is a relic from the first interstellar war (the hundred years' war) on a colony world in the backwaters of the galaxy. The UEAF needs to investigate claims of Marauder activity in deep space. While there, they must also see if a cache of high-tech, top secret weapons from the first interstellar war have been left unaccounted; or maybe see if they have already been stolen and ended up in the wrong hands... Crossing the Rubicon - This is it, war! A Martian fleet has been spotted leaving orbit and approaching Earth. The Martian dictator claims that the fleet is commanded by rogues who have nothing to do with any official invasion plan. Are they trying to defect? Are they making a pre-emptive attack? Is the Martian dictator lying? The UEAF must intercept this fleet before it gets near Earth and prevent a system disaster... The Pyrrhic Victory - A colony on the fringes of the known galaxy has successfully repelled repeated attacks from marauders. Unfortunately, the battles have taken a heavy toll on their worlds and they have requested assistance from Earth. Because they are Commonwealth allies United Earth is obligated to send assistance and defend them against the Marauders, who may still have a base nearby...
Good list of missions, all of them being quite interesting and large in their own right. So here's what I think for some of them. As from my character's perspective: 1). Operation: Steel Saber: Trin will take this as a personal vendetta, so I'm just warning you. Plus I don't really no the long term of this one. You could use it as a branch to a deeper plotline though, probably something involving the Martian revolution. 2). Snake in the Grass : Again, personal vendetta, it's bound to happen. But this is a genuinely cool mission. I would take it any day. 3). The Sleeping Dragon: One of my favorites of the list, and it slips perfectly for my character. Personal Preferences: 1). The Hornet’s Nest: This is way cool, probably my favorite. It has endless possibilities available in it. 2). The Pyrrhic Victory: Again, awesome. 3). The Gordian Knot: This is my other favorite of the list. Don't...please...don't do Rise of the A.I. I have seen this waaaaayyyy too much, and I many shoot you if you do it hahaha. I liked it the first few times around, and now I'd just be annoyed.
whaaa? no rise of the AI? buh-buh-buh-but, I like robots! naw, it's cool, I know what you mean, the whole time I was writing it I was thinking that it had "BladeRunner" written all over it. Honestly it's one of my least favorites so I'm not too terribly attached to it. The cognitive robots (Cogs) are part of my galaxy, but as I said, all or most of them have been destroyed or fled Earth, so we won't be very likely to see any of them. now please don't shoot me
Haha okay, and I don't mind them as a side race, but as long as they aren't the focus. You are safe for now.
So, will you let us know when our character can start a mission or can we start straight away? This is the first RPG I've participated in so I'm not quite sure.
well first we meet talk and have a cup of tea or coffee or milk (I hate all 3.) Better choice is a cold-drink not the carbonated fizzy drinks.
Nah that's cool, you can start or finish whenever you want. I was gonna try to wait a little bit longer for more people to show up because I didn't know how many folks would show up, we're still getting more in, which is cool. I can tell that you're eager to start though, don't worry, we'll be blasting off soon, I'm gonna roleplay us a way up to the space station tommorow.
You Probably Wont have to wait for long, as soon as the Crimson Flame Rpg is finished, I can see quite a few other jumping on the band wagon All those missions sound awesome Personally I don't mind which, although ones in which we search for a lost ship sound particularly cool... I probs wont be able to post right away, but Ill get onto it Asap, this rpg looks pretty sweet, looking forward to being a part of it. (unless of course my character doesnt fit in which case let me know )
What the hell are you guys doing? Your adding plot to damn story that I don't will be used by Jon at all. Have you talked with him about it? I'm so confused by what your doing.
Yeah, it's just a small plot for Arc and Nathan. It doesn't need to be big. It's simply being used to form a friendship between the two characters, In fact, it could be used as a beginning to the "Catch that martian!" mission...
Oh okay, I was scared you trying to force plot it and that was genuinely making me mad, but since it isn't, so no harm done. I was just confused.
Well, the story is the GMs and he already has a plot in his mind. Now when members create a plot it could conflict with the original plot. These things frustrate the GM usually but how about a conversation between Arc and Trin over "cigarettes". I am 14, so don't go hard OOC on my views with cigarettes. But IC you can call Arc an idiot! EDIT: No he was talking to himself but he did throw a disgusted talk. I would have loved him to say that aloud but considering his introvert personality I chose the best.
I just needed to know if could respond or not, and don't worry, my character isn't inclined to make an argument anyways.
Sorry, a much more subtle response was in order. =D Haha, it's not in character for her to do that anyways. So don't think too much of it.
Just remember she's stubborn for many reasons, including the fact that she's been molded that way through life.
Yeah yeah I know, I was just saying that she's going to shoot you down or just not listen if you argue with her haha. Nothing personal ya know. And I totally read that as char and not character, so it took me a while to get un-confused again. I am up far too early to be on here haha.
