I'm looking for recommendations for online used bookstores in the US. I recently lost my little library. Taking the opportunity to really think about what I am bringing in and reading. Really, though, just looking for some cheap paperbacks. If you have experience with online booksellers, I would love to hear about it. Thanks.
Biblio is the best in my opinion. A lot of booksellers use it. Abebooks is good, too, but it's owned by Amazon. That's why I tend to use Biblio, but I'm a bit biased.
Powell's Books in Portland, Oregon does extensive on-line trading. http://www.powells.com/ If you're ever in Portland, this place is a must ... an entire city block, plus smaller places across the street.
I feel like cheap paperbacks might be better purchased locally, if at all possible. For rare or antique or particular books, online makes sense, but cheap paperbacks? The shipping costs will probably make them more expensive than if you just browsed through Goodwill stores or garage sales...
I love abebooks but I hate the high shipping costs to Canada. I bought something from Buffalo once and it's still called dubbed me International. There's also Openlibrary.org where you can download books like a library for two weeks and read them.
