Place to post short stories for free?

Discussion in 'Electronic Publishing' started by agentkirb, Oct 25, 2009.

So I just finished the rough draft of this short story (it's like 30 pages long in Word though). It's the longest thing I've ever written and first major fiction piece I've done. I was wondering if there were sites to post stories for free. I'm not really looking to get money for it or anything... the alternative is to show it to friends or just to keep it for myself.

You could post it on Fictionpress.

fyi, writing isn't 'sized' by pages, but only by word count...

An alternative: get a free blog and post your stories on it. List your blog in blog directories so that readers can find it.

    ^^ I like Bruce's idea. :)

Pardon me for asking but are there sites that charge authors to publish there works there? That concept sounds insane.

Probably, but they are scams and should be avoided.

That's what I figured. If an author assumes you have to pay on some sites to get published why not have them?

Have you heard of WEbook? Another nice place to consolidate your works, imo.

I personally use excerpts from fiction I write as occasional entries on my lj. Since I set the posts to friends-only, that means I could still get the stories published. But that's just me...
