-okay, so my protagonist is invited to a masquerade ball by her boyfriend, who just happens to be a vampire.I know, sounds cliche, but its a romance scene.however, the whole no reflection in the mirror thing is adverted (on purpouse)and said mansion turns out to be a subworld gateway to some other dimension so its actually a plot point.has this been done? Can I pull this off effectively? Or should I x out the ball completely? p.s in a science fiction/romance novel
Vampires? Masquerade balls? Subworld gateways to other dimensions? Science fiction? Yes, of course this has been done. See the collected works of Jane Austen. BTW, re: vampires having no reflection. Does this pertain to their clothes, too? Would a vampire's clothing reflect, but not his skin? You know, if I were a vampire, and I were attending a masquerade ball, I'd wear mirror clothing, so I'd reflect everything. I'd tell people I was disguised as the rest of the room. It sure would screw around with the no-reflection vampire thing, wouldn't it?
Whether it's been done before or not is irrelevant. Just write it, and make the reader believe it is possible.
