    Warped Sanctuary

He stood in the doorway, threatening and looming,
All consuming in his need to dominate her, and oh, how he succeeded.
He was like a dark specter that leapt right of her night terrors to remind her that her demons were very real.
Once a person she trusted to protect and love her was now her definition of a living hell.
He was always there, no matter where she ran to for sanctuary.
Even the lake with her ever-swaying willow tree that she held most sacred was marred by memories of him.
The lake was now only a remembrance of how black his heart was, how dark her bruises were and how hopeless any light she used to hold was.
One day she sat by that lake and stared into its grey depth and thought, "Why not succumb to the peace the water held?"
She removed her shoes, felt the wet grass beneath her toes, felt the wind caress her cheek, and each individual fall of a raindrop as they found home on her body, for a moment at least.
Her senses were attuned to every sensation and as she felt natures loving being accepting her into her grasp, she knew that she belong to the world,
That she was to alive to let dark thoughts take her vitality and that her life was her own, and not to the evil empty threat that fleeting to root in her mind. Or in her home.

I'm just a kid with more responsibility!
I'm just a man with less to gain!
I'm both, and between I'm gone.
I'm condensed and lost between labels.
I'm stretched and ripped into separate pieces.
    I'm alone and surrounded.
I'm impulsive, and slapped for being so.
    I'm intensely evasive.
    I'm trying.
    I'm golden and then bronze.
    I'm silk and then stone.
    I'm wretched and undesirable.
    I'm awake and insurmountable.
    I'm fleeting.
    I'm dead.
    I'm full.
    I'm empty.
    I'm here.
    I'm gone.
    I'm here.

do not consume your heart with hate
they're all human; all is great
    black, yellow, red or gay
it doesnt matter to which God they pray.

do not consume your mind with greed
with war, pest or mouths to feed
some must struggle so hard to live
instead be the one to help and give

do not consume your soul with fear
shivering and scared that the end is near
drop the anger, fear and strife
stay in the light and enjoy your life

that was my warning, this is my threat
someone will claim your emotional debt
fail to listen and live in hell
or a two by four iron cell

    My Dog Rex

    I bought myself a dog
    and called the puppy Rex
He bit and whined and howled
    and made an awful mess

    He grew into a large
    and dedicated mutt
He always stood right by me
    Loyal, caring... but

    The day the young man
came, to rob me of my stuff
Rex looked right through the window
    and gave a little 'ruff'

A well trained pup I have
and I so regret it now
As Rex opened the door for him
    and I've no idea how

He must've jumped up at the handle
    to let the robber in
Now Rex looks up under his eyes
    Apologising for his sin!

I Told Him I Would Do It

I told him I would do it
    He didn't believe me
I was tired of his ego
I was sick of his pride

    He taunted me too much
    He thought he could escape
    A swipe here
    A nudge there

    Time was ticking down
    My anger was ticking up
    Things would boil over
    He would regret his actions

He had it all figured out
He thought he had me beat
So close to the end now
    Time to prove him wrong

    A tap becomes a nudge
    A nudge becomes a hit
    Screech, swing, boom
    I'm outta here

    His car spun into wall
I drove past for the win
    Oh he'll be okay
    Except for his pride

    He didn't finish the race
    I'm in Victory Lane
I told him he wouldn't do it
    He didn't believe me

    Counting Up

    Being held at gunpoint
    is quite a scary thing;
    But so's the prior gunfight
    with the bullets going zing!
    One, two, three, four, five,
were the shots that passed me by,
Plus one more in the air
to make me stand up and comply.
    I think about my options
with my hands above my head,
And know that I'll be safe
    when I run away instead.
    He must have just miscounted
    with the bullets flying thick,
    'Cause his revolver's empty
and my feet are wicked quick!

    Storm and Fear

    Shadows reach across my room
Light is choked throughout a loom,
    Crackling now assails my ear
Sleep eludes me, soaked in fear.

And my palsy brings me shame
Branch and tree to take the blame,
    Utter anger an oath begets
    Restless slumber made of threats.

Stormy night does pass in time
As does thought and feel of crime,
Change of heart i won’t regret
Last night’s vow was just a threat.
