The theme for this poetry contest is going to be this image here:

The poetry style that this contest will require to be written in will be "Epitaph".

Epitaph -- "a phrase or form of words written in memory of a person who has died, especially as an inscription on a tombstone." https://goo.gl/vKvlCY

You are allowed to interpret this image anyway you like, but please make sure to include it in some way. Not doing so may result in your entry being disqualified.

Entries for this contest must be submitted by 11:59pm/EST (ET) on Saturday, February 25th. By this point the entry thread should be locked, but if it's not and you submit an entry after the time stated above your poem may be deleted.

All entries submitted will be anonymized until voting for this contest ends. Keeping everyone anonymous helps ensure a more fair contest especially when we're voting for the winner.

This is something new we're doing. I want to create a poetry book using poems from these poetry contests we do, so if you want to have yours possibly included put two asterisks ** at the top of your poem, and I'll contact you further if you're interested. More information on this can be found here.

This week I figured I'd keep things interesting using a more unusual form suggested by @gibble410, so thanks for that suggestion! Also just remind everyone each person may only submit 1 entry per contest. Don't want anyone to be disqualified. Anyways, I look forward to seeing what results we get from this interesting mixed pair of theme and form.

Have a happy Valentine's Day everyone! See you all back here in two weeks! :D

**The way her smile lights up even the dark, how she remembers even stars can't shine without darkness is what made her memorable to those she met.

    Epitaph

And now you stand in heaven,
    A paradise of snowing light.
Wait for me on that bridge,
So we might make this next journey
    Together.

    Rainy Days

Written in honor of a man who enjoyed taking long walks through the bridge with me on wet, rainy days as we'd stare at the ashes of a night-city sky. He will forever be remembered.

**A Light That Never Goes Out

Always drawn to the bright lights of the city,
Now gone to the final light, much the pity,
Life on the edge, always seeking a thrill,
Instilling your love for life in us, something they'll never kill.

    **Sorrow Filled Epitaph

    Here lies my lovely wife,
Whom the lord hath called upon.
And when I think upon those days of strife,
I’m reminded of that wet and gloomy night,
    Lit only by street light,
We’d just finished our final fight,
Something about the lights of the sun, the moon, and the north star.
Yet alit was not the intoxicated driver,
In the swerving heavy metal death, that was a gray 4-door, busted fender, car…

Your swift passing has left my world wet and blurry.

    A Lover's Epitaph**

    Even when
    She had not yet passed
n' wore the mask of age
    Upon my eyes
    She is a youth
    Doused in wet
    and crimson

    In The Rain

Looking out at the big city,
About to start a new life.
This is how I’ll remember you,
    Standing in the rain,
    Forever young,
    Smiling,
    Dreaming.

    A Lover's Inscription

The gold here hid is nought but my love.
Though scalding sun and stormy nights
may kiss the soil right where she lies,
her soul is safe, away from other guys.
