The Good, The Bad, The One I Almost Had.

Love is sadness, Love is joy,
love is not a game or a toy.

Love is the night time, and Love is the day,
Love is the times when I’d like you to stay.

Love can be jealous, Love can be sly,
Love makes you happy, and Love makes you cry.

Love is the truth, and Love is a lie,
Love is what you and I can’t deny.

Love is the danger from which I must hide,
Love is the one that will be my guide.

Love is the darkness, and Love is the light,
Love is the one who holds me so tight.

Love is the good, and Love is the bad,
Love is the one I almost had.

Love is the food that keeps us alive,
Love is the poison from which we must hide.

Love is anger, frustration and pain,
Yes, that is Love, the name of the game.

    Summer Love

I read about a summer love,
    The falling for,
    The first and last kiss,
    The life within a life.

    I read about the pain,
    The fear,
    The knowing,
    The having to say goodbye.

    I hadn’t thought about it,
    Not for years,
    My own summer love,
My own life within a life.

    I read about a future,
    Distant friends,
    No longer lovers,
    Words left unspoken.

I realised this is who we are,
    Our own words,
    Our own memories,
Too fragile to be spoken of.

I read about a summer love,
    And remembered ours.
    We both already know,
    But I will never tell.

By Gloss of Early Morning Rain

By gloss of early morning rain
a veil of varnish skims the lane.
To fields of lanky sun-kissed corn
the tiny vole will rise with dawn.
And come the night when all is still
the bashful badger skulks the mill,
'till gloss of early morning rain.

    Alice

    I’m Alice with malice,

fell into a blue underground palace.

    Created a trippy empire

    with Cheshire.

Now we’re galaxy glidin’ in glass seas,

    tropical like Florida Keys.

    Monte Acuto, la luna, Pluto

    Can’t reach us for comment—

not unless you have a warrant.

But high seas eventually give way to decaying reeds:

a flash of crystal ball clarity

shows me where I’m supposed to be.

Life on the run has become

tiresome. I want tangled roots, a green thumb.

I hear whispers, they lead to airports.

    Cheshire finds us Molson-stained passports.

In the Great White North I submit a cannabis application

and become a founder in this newly minted vocation.

As CEO I’m already an anomaly,

CBC’s Greenlit is calling, they want a story on this female oddity.

    In an emerald aurora borealis,

    I’m Alice turned Pallas.

    I now help female entrepreneurs

become emboldened, golden petals open like furze.

    I’ve found my way.

    The full moon,
    the overpass:

    The headlights meet me.

    A gutted rose,
    of flesh and blood

Once, I ran my toes through the sand

Once, I galloped across the dunes, caring only for the ever-expansion of grains

    Once, I laid, worry free,

    The sun

    A friend

    Not a foe

Now, I drive my fingers into the sand

Now, I crawl across the dunes, caring only for the life inside me,

    Fading

    Now, I lie, worry free

    Forbidden Love, Failed

I leaped into the soul of the sun
    And cannot complain
Now that my heart has been
    ... incinerated.

I float in the heart of an ocean
    that crashes against distant continents,
    meandering through frothy, dark waters,
letting the waves pull me under
    and throw me back up,
    gasping the misty, salty air.
    I’ve been carried astray,
    lost sight of the shore.
I know that I may remain
    looking up to empty skies
    changing endlessly
from blue to black to a bleeding red.
    For I have condemned myself
to the solitude of the sea,
    breathless and aching
    for grains of sand
    or green trees
    or an outstretched hand
that I know are waiting for me
    somewhere on the sparkling horizon.
