There was a program at my school called Poetry Outloud, the Poem I did was the Owl and the Pussy Cat.
Yeah, slam poetry is among my favourite genres, but even then it's so much about the reading that the poem itself kinda falls by the wayside. The slam poetry greats are the most expressive readers, not necessarily the best poets. Of course, when great poetry and a great reader combine (as with Buddy Wakefield and Andrea Gibson), it's pretty incredible. But even then, it sounds like prose read expressively, not necessarily like a "poetry reading", whatever that is...
