I'm looking for inspiration! I am trying to find the right name for a magical academy for my story. In the story, the academy is founded out of necessity to teach people how to use their magic for good rather than selfish or evil reasons. The academy is built on an ancient stone circle that once served as the focal point for a battle between good and evil. Requirements: Must end with Academy Two-syllable words preferred Things I've Toyed With (I'm not sure why I'm fixated on north and south!): Northbourne Academy Southstone Academy Brightspire Academy Any suggestions or ideas are welcome! Thank you in advance!
That's the kind of thing that will come to you as you write. When you're hip deep in the 1st draft or the 2nd something will jump out and slap you in the face and you'll know that's it. There's no need to labor over things like names at the beginning of a project. It's far more important to make sure you have a story idea and some characters that mesh together to create the conflict that is the story. Names are almost incidental and will fall into place as you go. I often change names many times before I settle on anything.
I am the opposite: names are essential to my creative process. I can't picture characters or places clearly until they have names. Battlestone Academy Circlestone Academy Brightwell Academy
I should clarify—I always use names for everything, and sometimes I labor over them in the beginning, but often they change as the story develops (as many things do, including often the story itself).
How about a short one even though it's three? Mirific Academy. It's an old word that means "miraculous."
I was so proud to get something that I had to share my self-satisfaction. Those moments have been few and far between lately.
Just call it The Academy for now and maybe something better will come to you later. The names you have suggested don't work for me, they all sound like a prep school near Brighton.
