Talk about your accent in here!

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by ManicParroT, Nov 28, 2008.

Well, over at the other thread the topic of accents came up, and I thought it would be fun to hear what the other posters on this forum sounded like. My accent is English South African, but it's shifted and become more South African over the last 5 or so years.

If you can't think of what to say, try this:
    My version is here:
    http://www.tempfiles.net/download/200811/28650/accent.html

It's a .wav file, in the absence of a decent place that you could stream audio of.

So, what do you sound like? I'm eager to hear!

    EDIT:

Second link, first one was slow:

If you have a better site, post a link!

    Edit of an edit:

    Mediafire.com rocks, use it instead:

I like being mysterious. You don't know my name, age, profession, what I look like, what I sound like, or even my gender (I mean, I claim to be male, but I could just have ticked that box 'cause I don't want to be hit on...)

I am, for all intents and purposes, entirely a figment of your imagination...

P.S. that site is godawful. I'm DLing at less than 5kb/s

I don't have a mic at the moment, but my accent is Warringtonian (kinda a mercifully diluted version of Mancunian) crossed with Lincolnshire, and a wee bit of Midlands.

Well, your writing makes you sound fat. And ugly.

    (thisisajoke)

    :p

I know, the site is terrible. If anyone has a better link, we can certainly use that one. I'll look a bit more, but I can't find anything on par with, say, photobucket.

I *think* I speak in a slight cockney tone with a hint of snob :D

Nah, I live in the south-east of england so ive got absolutely no idea how to determine my accent really. it's not that distinctive o_O

I love regional dialect though haha. Up north they call a cake a "bun" :p

Broad Yorkshire. Very broad Yorkshire. I lived away last year and got told to tone it back by half the people I lived with (and two of those were from Yorkshire). No one could understand me!

'Astle have thee know t' train's just got in t' station. 'T were running five minute late. Aye. That's right. Two-thirty two t' 'Uddersfield.'

That's a rough idea of what I sound like.

And as for regional dialect, it is a bun. A cake's a large chocolate thing that's generally cut into slices. A bun's a mouthful of a morsel.

So think of Katie Summers on Boston Legal? I love to listen to her talk.

More people need to upload their voices. I'm hypocritically curious :p

What if I had been? That could have deeply offended me :p

I do not have a mic either, but I was born and raised in the deep south of the United States. Three years ago I moved up north to Maryland, and unfortunately I retained a slight southern accent that I can’t seem to shake.

    I don't a have a mic either.
But I guess I just have your 'standard' American accent. Not southern or Brooklyn or anything. Just boring lol.
Which I find funny how a lot of American's don't believe they even have an accent.

Which also made me realize people must read things in their head with their accent.

From now on I'm reading things to myself with a British accent.
    Or Irish.
    Or German.

    Hm. I'll alternate.

I have no idea how to use a mic, but mine is just..average American, I guess?

I've noticed, though, that people from where I live tend to say "I'm 'oin' to" instead of "I'm going to," and "I-own-know" instead of "I don't know."

    If that makes any sense..

There is an Ohio accent (at least one). Iy seems to have a touch of Tennessee to it, at least in the Akron vicinity. Cleveland is definitely different.

Times I've visited froiends in Ohio, I assimilated the accent somewhat.

However, I've never really picked up any of the Boston area accents, even having lived IN Boston for years.

I can pick a Boston accent from a mile away. Very distinctive.

    "Borston".

Imagine Darth Vader's helmut, modifying Elmer Fudd's voice to add wheezing and deep echo. Now, add Rocky Balboa's punch-drunk slur and Arnold Schwarzenegger's Austrian influence with a slight Bostonian stuck-up bite...that's pretty much my accent.

Souji: Is that a Malaysian accent? It sounds slightly Indian, but as if it's been scrubbed down with an big dose of British English.

I honestly can't place your accent. It's Commonwealth, and it reminds me of Souji's, but I just can't tell.

Of course, as Emerald has so helpfully pointed out, the quality is crud :p

Is it possible to not have an accent, other than a general American accent? If so, that's what I have...or don't have.
