Added a couple more characters to my lists today. Around 500 words, I think.
Started and finished the antagonists section of my character sheets today. A solid 2000 words of material.
Ran over the character lists and tried to think of any gaps in the cast. I'll probably add two more supporting characters tomorrow, and that will be it for the character sheets.
After that, I plan to outline my new POV character's arc, then outline my sequel chapter by chapter.
Added two supporting characters today, which wraps up my lists for this book.
Checked off all my recommended reading/research for Daybreak. Although she's not a POV character and doesn't have a big arc, she's important enough I might sketch out a brief outline for her.
After that, I'm moving on to my reading/research for the detective POV character I'm adding.
Began outlining the character arc for Investigator Silvia Pamplone, my detective/police contact POV character, today. I got through the first act, which ended up being around a thousand words.
Finished off Silvia's character arc today. At least 1600 words today.
I remembered another minor character needed for the plot, and I need to name and give background to the murder victims, so I'll make those additions to my character sheets tomorrow.
After that, I'm going to consume every piece of media on my research list, then make my outline.
Dealt with those character entries today (one supporting character and the four victims), so I'm done with planning for a bit.
Characters arches are interesting. I had one develop their own sub plot in my book.
Its great to read about your progress! Keep it up!
Yeah. The characters from today are so minor they don't really have arcs, but I'm looking forward to the big POV ones.
Down with the flu, but that just means I've had the chance to make some real progress with my reading list. Most of it's checked off at this point.
Sent off my query letter+the first 3000 word of The Silver Shrike to Hydra Publications today. Fingers crossed.
Wow, that is so cool. Good luck!
Why did you choose Hydra?
I'd had a story (a novelette) published in one of their anthologies, and their acquiring editor expressed interest in seeing future novel/series submissions from the contributors. Plus, they've published superhero influenced fiction before, which you don't see from that many publishers, so they seemed a good fit for this heroic fantasy/superhero fusion.
We'll see within five weeks whether I was right.
A request for the full mansucript just landed in my inbox. Holy hell, that was fast!
I'll make a last minute tweak to the final sentences that I've been thinking about, then send it over.
That is fantastic! Godspeed there!
And the mansucript is away!
It's far from guaranteed, but I feel really good about this. A response time of only a few hours to my query has to bode well.
Since that's out of my hands, I'll return my focus to consuming my research list and crafting my outline.
Wow, congratulations! That's excellent news! It's almost like they were just waiting for you to send them a query.
They did just reopen for submissions today, so I probably landed at the top of the pile.
But you said they had one of your stories published before, so you definitely must have made a lasting impression
They mentioned it when requesting the full, so it was probably a combination of previous experience with me and my query coming early. In any case, I'm happy.
Outlined the first six chapters of the sequel today. Almost 1500 words.
Outlined five Chapters yesterday, for a total of about 1400 words.
Outlined four today. About 1300 words.
