I wrote this fantasy fiction story a couple days back and now I'm starting to regret my choice of using 1st person instead of 3rd person Is it possible for me to change the POV? If so how could I? I'm using google docs if that helps thanks in advance
Go back and edit it...? I mean, there doesn't seem to be a way to fix this other than the hard way. Is there a plot reason why the POV can't change?
Your question can be interpreted in two ways. 1. I've written text in 1st person which I now want to edit to 3rd person and I'm looking for an easy way to do that. 2. I'm writing in 1st person and I've realized I need to write about events the MC doesn't witness. How can I do this? If it's the first one, I'd just go through the text and manually edit it. I'd also save a copy of the old text in case I changed my mind. If it's the second option, you could use multiple 1st person accounts but I wouldn't. That would be particularly jarring for the reader. You can get around the issue by having the MC find out about events they do not witness.
Plenty of books use multiple first person POVs, or combined first and third, etc. I don’t think it is jarring. Readers are well-equipped to handle it. If you want to go to a very tight third person POV, that’s an easy rewrite because it’s so close to first. If you want to switch POVs, write it that way and see what you think about the result.
You could always have fun and completely rewrite it in a new pov. You could even do it again and change the gender of your characters. There is so much fun you can have playing with writing.
Keep in mind that you want to use different perspective modes for different purposes. As in: Picking First Person (for example) dramatically affects how the story is told. As such, your choice of POV should depend on what sort of story you're telling, and what approach best suits your style. You should really take some time to research this stuff before making that decision.
