Puerto Rico is in such bad shape... with millions of people not only without power and communications, but even clean drinking water... and Trump is refusing to allow other countries or outside organizations to send aid because of a law from 1920 called the Jones Act. What's wrong with him? "Also called the Merchant Marine Act of 1920, the Jones Act requires all goods shipped between American ports to be on ships built, owned and operated in the United States." http://www.newsweek.com/puerto-rico-hurricane-maria-donald-trump-jones-act-relief-aid-672778
Yet he waived that requirement for Texas and Florida. Wonder if it has anything to do with color and language?
Honestly? Many news organizations and political analyst wonder if Trump really understands that the people of Puerto Rico are American citizens even though Puerto Rico is a territory and not a state.
Yep, and sadly Trump supporters have argued to me that the original reporting that he wasn't going to waive the Jones Act was fake news, despite it coming straight from his mouth to Reporters.
But we've only the media's word for that, and obviously they falsified those tapes to discredit him, just like Frost edited his interview to discredit president Nixon (yeah I know it was live)
Back on topic Before and after shots of P/R from the NAOO showing the extent of the power loss - Wrey and William's condo is in Caguas which is that little blob of lights just down from san juan - so at least there is some power infrastructure in his area
It actually came from Reuters, and it wasn't just a headline—there was a fair amount to the story. However, thankfully, the Act has been waived since the article was published ...and Reuters reported that as well. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-storm-maria-puertorico-shipping/u-s-says-no-need-for-puerto-rico-shipping-waiver-idUSKCN1C12UI http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-puertorico/trump-lifts-foreign-shipping-restrictions-for-storm-hit-puerto-rico-idUSKCN1C31S8
OK, hate to hijack Wrey's position: any conversation regarding Trump goes in the proper Trump thread, even if it's related to him and Puerto Rico. Sorry, Wrey. D: ----------------------- Anywhoo.. ...I've no words. D: At least Wrey's near the spot where there's some power.
I have been trying to stay up to date with all of this, abd suddenly, it occurred to me a moment ago that I have a friend down there. I swnd my sincerest prayers and abundant love to them now. May we be guided, wach of us, in how we can help in the recovery efforts.
Talking to Wrey as I'm writing this! They're doing alright over there, though they still have no power or water. Internet/mobile coverage is very patchy and unreliable. Will, of course, still take a very long time before the crisis is over, but they're fine, and that's what matters!
And Trump is now threatening to pull out of Puerto Rico still complaining about how they have forced so much debt on the U.S. All he cares about is money... https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-warns-federal-help-cant-stay-puerto-rico-forever-132549306.html
I don't think he gives a shit. To him, they're foreigners. Since he also isn't paying attention to California (which is currently on fire), this tells me that he doesn't give a shit about anyone who didn't vote for him. Letting California burn, and letting Puerto Rico drown (despite them unable to vote at all in our elections is his way of vindictive revenge.
Clearly what's needed here is a wall along the coast to stop those hispanic and black people from coming to the" land of the free white anglo saxon protestant" Thumper has an only slightly stronger grasp of politco-geography than Dan Quayle who famously said about Hawaii "Its in the Atlantic, and its a piece of america that although its there is also right here" He may have been thinking of Puerto Rico (some accounts say he was thinking of the Azores which aren't even american)
