    My musical goal!

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Alice in Wonderland, May 29, 2007.

I found my guitar in the attic! I want to learn Nothing Else Matters (or at least some of it) by Metallica. It's an acoustic guitar.

    Any advice? xD

no advice to give you unfortuantly. my sister used to play the guitar a little but she gave up. i myself am more of a piano player, which i can play quite well if i have a sheet of music infront of me, although the note letter wrote out, not the actual not as i cannot read music. lol. good luck though :)

Thanks. ^^ I learned the first (easy) bit of the song from a sheet of tabs I found through google. Then it started getting confusing. D= At least I can play the musical guessing game with what little I know. xD

I might ask dad if he can work out how to play it then teach it to me. D=

lol. i can be hard learning music from a sheet, especially since you haven't heard what you are actaully playing as such. why not find someone who knows how to play it on the guitar, and they could show you and let you listen a few times so that you can get to grips with it.

Sounds like a good idea! I'll go lurk around the music dept. at my old school. xD

I agree with Heather. Learning a musical instrument from sheet music is a bit like learning to speak a language without a native speaker to correct you on the nuances. Even if you hear the inflections, you miss out on the subtleties of inflection that a native speaker would notice immediately.

I know the song pretty well. ^^ It's really pretty and I wanted to learn it so I can play something really pretty. xD The problem with the song is that is starts of easy for an acoustic player then turns into a huge electric guitar part. D= Plus it's very fast. Perhaps I should practice moving from the strings. xD

I'll deffinately find someone that already knows it then ask them to help.

I can play "Nothing else matters"! Yayness! It's very easy to start with, but like you said, it gets harder. I'll give you a penny if you can master the solo. Two pennies if its on your accoustic :D

Nothing Else Matters is, like, the most butt-easy song to play for a guitar beginner. =P
And the drums aren't too hard either. (Hurrah for being percussion!)

Ivan, It's so not easy! What the hell does "Hammer on" and "Pull off" mean? xD I thought tabs were easy!

I second everything Frost said. Particularly that about http://www.ultimate-guitar.com. They have the most tabs on the internet, and were one of the few tab websites which survived the great copyright purge (mostly because they are based in Russia, rather than the US, despite being entirely in English :p).

Ultimate guitar is awesome. Great site.

As for things like hammer ons and pull offs:

www.musictheory.com or www.etheory.com or something like that, if neither of those sites work just google online music theory or something. Good luck.

The site is indeed great. However, their forums I became disallusioned with a long time ago. It's just full of eleven year olds who think that they know everything, and to whom the concept of maturity is completely alien. Hence why I love this place so much :)

You could have picked a better metallica track say Harvester of Sorrow. lol Hope it works out for you. Guitar lessons are pretty basic but learning metal songs is more talent than your typical all girl/boy groups stuff.

Nothing Else Matters is one of my favourite songs... Surely that makes it a good choice of things to learn? :S

Exactly right, Alice. Go for it, then record yourself playing it so we can have a listen :)
