Rainbow Award Winner in the House!!!

Discussion in 'Success Stories' started by BayView, Dec 8, 2016.

For those who don't know - the Rainbow Awards are one of the biggest awards in the LGBTQ writing world, and the winners were just announced!

    https://reviews-and-ramblings.dreamwidth.org/4932973.html

You might want to do a search for "Laurin Kelly" over there, because if you just skim you might see one of the times she's mentioned, but probably not ALL THREE!

She got sixth place for Contemporary Gay Romance (always a huge and competitive category) and second place(!!!) for Best Debut Gay Book. And then a nice little Runner-Up prize in the overall Best Gay Book category to round out the package.

    Check it out at: https://lessthanthreepress.com/books/index.php?main_page=product_bookx_info&cPath=90&products_id=1127&zenid=ljj8fmv70a04sbr4s15tta3bl2

It seems to be on super-sale on that site and at Amazon as well - just in case you wanted to expand your reading horizons a little!

    Congratulations, Laurin!

Thank you so much for posting this, @BayView! Since UTK is my first book, needless to say I'm in a very happy kind of shock that it placed in three categories. And holy hell that #2 in the debut category nearly had me falling out of my seat. Twitter was quite the love fest last night with so many of Less Than Three's authors placing and winning, and I'm still riding the high this morning. *happy dance*

I don't normally read genre books, but I clicked on the link, tried the 'look inside' feature, and after about 15 minutes of reading I went ...okay, this is for me—I'm hooked. And bought it on Kindle. Very entertaining and interesting already, especially for a food lover like me. There is a lot more here than just Romance. Well done.

Oh wow...thank you so much! I would love to hear your thoughts on the whole thing once you're done, if you're so inclined. :)

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the food/romance balance; the novel is around 70% food/30% romance. When reviewers are disappointed with the book, the main critique is too much food, not enough sex & romance.

I also wanted to give a HUGE shout out to my publisher, Less Than Three Press. They not only submitted my book along with all the others that came out this year under their imprint, they paid all the submission fees out of pocket (which for the Rainbow Awards is donated to various LGBTQ charities).

I'm not sure how many books they submitted but I know 14 either won or placed, so I'm thinking it was quite a few. Being new to LGBTQ publishing I didn't even know the Rainbow Awards existed, and without LT3's tireless efforts to market and promote their authors I would have missed out on the opportunity altogether. I truly feel like they are as responsible for my success as I am for writing Under the Knife in the first place.

@Wreybies might be the best person to ask. If he can't, I am sure he could point you in the right direction.

We've been having some difficulty with the Bookstore's portal to Amazon, sorry to say. The Bookstore is basicaly an extrusion of Amazon into our realm just as the human eye is really an extrusion of the brain. (too graphic?) :-D They made a bunch of back-end changes to their side of things that sort of made our side of things non-accessible. We're still looking into a solution that doesn't leave us so at their mercy.

Thank you! And yes, big thanks to @BayView as I am just a teensy bit short on the requirements to post in the Success Stories forum myself.

I'm so excited! Thanks to the Rainbow Awards wins, my local LGBTQ bookstore Outwords Books is going to stock a couple copies of Under the Knife in their brick and mortar store in addition to their online catalog. :D
