Placing an adverb in a passive sentence

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by yokone, Mar 20, 2013.

    Hi all,

how can I place an adverb in a passive sentence correctly?

    1) It can easily be done
    2) It can be easily done
    3) It can be done easily.

First one sounds better to me, but I see the second one is more common if I am not wrong. So what is the correct one?

    Thanks

1 and 3 are correct, but in 1, you have more emphasis on the "easily" by putting it before the main verb. I have never seen or heard of 2, I'm guessing this is a regional usage.

I've actually heard all three before. If the second one is the most common, then go for that. Like madhoca said, it might be a regional thing.

they are all grammatically correct, each with a minor difference in meaning...
