They sell these little guys in Japan. Very fun, and very squeaky. They like to crawl inside your shirt and make a home for themselves there.

I wish “scholar” were still a valid career path and that I was like the third son of a respectable well-to-do family.

Like, no, I don’t want to teach, I just want to perpetually and continuously learn. And discuss the subjects and academic disciplines with others. Then get back to studying more topics and disciplines.

I don’t want a grade or degree or a job at the end. I want a never ending pursuit of knowledge for its own sake.

I knew someone who planned to just keep applying for new degree programs as a means of continuing to defer payment on the student loans for the last ones. Their plan was to die billions of dollars in debt with dozens of letters after their name.

No, no, no. Didn’t you read my post?

I want to be dependently wealthy.

And respectably idle and consequently unharassed in my pursuits.

    Don't we all.

Of course, I don't see that happening anytime soon, so I'll just continue on the independent version of that until I can quit working a job other than learning and writing and collection my various oddities.

Remember remember the fifth of November.

    The actual folk verse.

Guy Fawkes is an interesting day. England is building bonfires to remember the stopping of a treason plot as Americans go to the primary polls. The irony between the two countries is lovely. Guy Fawkes has also taken on something else. Becoming some what of a symbol of the post modern protest thanks to V for Vendetta, anonymous, Occupy, Hong Kong, and etc. While the punk rock liberal in me supports the ideas behind all of this and these protests (should they remain peaceful) is Guy Fawkes really the symbol we want? Never mind the issue of do we really want to associate with well a treason plot. I mean I want to change and tear down the establishment as much as the next bloke but also....I don`t want to blow anyone the fuck up. I believe in karma and I feel that fuck my scales up.

Even more so then that, the whole plot wasn`t some grand effort to rip off the shackles of society. Yes, he was trying to kill the king.....but the plan was also to install a Catholic monarch after. The shackles were fine by them so long as they were Catholic shackles.

I don`t know, something to mentally chew on through today I guess.

You know that fantasy archetype, Loremaster? When I say it I always think of Adventure-quest and the character Falerin (Actually based off one of there head writers...who passed away this year...sad, but may he rest in peace knowing his stories will forever live on) but I suppose any would get the point across enough. Just sophisticated, knowledgeable on a wide array of topics, with a bit of a focus on history, literature, anthropology, and etc. Looked to as a source of information and guidance but no real position, just living in a library studying and writing.

That`s what I wanted to be when I grew up.

I had a high school teacher who did this. He had a bunch of degrees already and he just kept going back and back through online courses. Told us straight up they could never collect on his loans if he never stopped. He was an odd one, always going on these long rants that had nothing to do with his subject (Biology/chemistry) most of them had to do with growing up in DC and his dad being in the NSA. Sometimes he would talk about working in big labs as a chemist, those were interesting and relevant. How he ended up in the rural ass end of PA I have no idea.

I bet the deeper you dig, the less it will all add up. Those people like that are usually habitual liars. They end up all the way out there because everyone else has booted them out along the way, so they just reinvent themselves out there.

No one talks about how Baby’s initial costume design in Baby Driver just looks like a closet cosplay/Disneybound of Han Solo.

Oh sure, everyone will talk about the subtle change in the colour palette of his wardrobe to denote his moral shift, but no one wants to talk about the Han Solo overlaps? No one?

    Just me?

It’s Penelope is a modern fairy tale retelling of the Odyssey all over again. . .

Lucy turned up on one of those Granada Reports pre-news snippets and I thought. “You look just like you did 15 years ago.” It’s weird innit?
