Just video chatted with my niece. My brother taught her to shake her fist when he says "give 'em the what for" so she was giving all of us the what for and I've never been so happy about it

Only just noticed the clock on my microwave and landline are an hour behind.

Apparently the clocks went forward a couple of days ago o_O

Tired of waiting for it to be a minute after midnight so I can write the next poem for NaPoWriMo.

Although, I guess it must be the 3rd somewhere... right?

And nobody would know if I wrote it now and just waited until later?

Fascinating observation. Some goodly while ago here in the forum another Brit made mention that most (in his opinion) Brits don't really twig body weight in kilos, that for most people it only makes tangible, real-world sense in lbs.

And yet everyone constantly takes the piss out of us for sticking with Imperial measures...

Y’know the part in the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ where the singer goes: ‘Mama, I didn’t mean to make you cry”?

I’m like, ‘you just shot a dude in the head, what the fuck did you think she’d do?’ [IMG] “Oh honey, I’m so glad that you committed murder and fucked your life up. It warms my heart to know that my sweet baby is now a criminal. It’s all a mother could ever want.”

My dad: when you're clocked out, I have a thing or two that might be of interest for you.
    Me: okay, cool.
    *twenty minutes later*
My dad: look at this dirt. You can have some.
    Me: .... Right now?

It's for when I start my gardens in my own backyard.

I'm reminded of this passage from Green Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. The regolith on Mars is unsuitable for growing plants, soil is a living thing, not just pulverized rock.

I guess I just called your dad a Martian?

Lying on the bed with my feet hanging over the edge, normal enough. Annnnnd then I thought about something reaching up and grabbing my toes so now my feet are nowhere near the edge, which is somehow worse?

what's the name for the style or look which comes from the very absence of style itself? It's not steampunk but I think it probably has its roots there. A kind of subtle, understated steampunk. I suppose grunge is as good a description as any.

I once heard someone describe the look of a jeep as 'urban camo' because rather than give it a re-spray they'd simply stripped away the old paint and left the bare metal, complete with scratches, patch repairs and evidence of previous paint jobs etc. He gave it a name then, and it originates from an artistic style.

As an example, they key fob thing I made has the same look. I was preparing it for a nice smooth spray job but grew to love this look and decided to keep it.

Well, having looked it up I'm pretty sure this isn't it. I don't really know how a 'family of consequentialist ethical theories' manifests itself in a look or visual style.

As it happens I remembered where I'd seen the jeep. It was an episode of Wheeler Dealers and having now found said episode I can tell you he described the style as 'pentimento'. Although an image search on this doesn't really match up. There are elements of the look I mean - especially in the modern take on the style - but for now it'll just have to go down as grunge.

I was thinking the other day, that compared to apocalyptic films like contagion, this virus is comparatively mundane. It's more like a social "vaccine"... forcing us through the strokes of not interacting (i.e. antibodies) with a smaller overall risk.
