You currently cannot get married or register a civil partnership in the UK because of coronavirus.
Though I guess because you can only marry at registered venues, that that is the reason.

I still remember the deeply disturbing phenomenon of people following online countdown clocks to when Mary-Kate and Ashley would turn 18 so they could be legally ogled. Grown adults trawling the edge of legal waters skeeve me to no end.

    Anywho...now they're creepy Gelflings.

Life is like a box of chocolates...

I'm not a kids person although the majority of them seem to stick on me for a reason, but after a certain age, between 5 and 6, I find conversing with them very exciting because they have a way to turn something mundane into a sci fi scenario with the most serious of looks. I was visiting a friend at his place and there were another 3 individuals there. A couple, around my age and their daughter that must have been around 6 years old. While everyone was busy with their dog's interactions (his friend had brought his dog over to meet my friends dog... oh, joy :nosleep:) the little girl comes running in from the balcony and tells me that this cat (my friend also has a cat) is a robot. I ask her how she knows. She answers in all seriousness that everybody knows that only robots don't turn their heads to face you and feign ignorance when you are trying to interact with them. It's robots pretending to be something else. That blew my mind.

Another one: According to a "How will I die" menu (you know, you pick the noted verb that corresponds to the first initial of your first name and the noted subject that corresponds to the first initial of your surname) I will either drown in or get suffocated by hugs. That's the sweetest, macabre thing I've ever heard. I checked to see the rest of the combined deaths and they were awful. I'm gonna have a lovely death! :D

I foresee this being the death of @Cave Troll at some point after this disaster. No idea who the perpetrator would be though...

My father is living out a Aesopian-esque tale. He has a cat and in a tall tree near the house there is a bird's nest. He feeds the cat every day and rewards it when it kills the mice around the farm, but if the cat brings a bird, he punishes it by not feeding it, ultimately motivating it to kill more birds.

I love how poetry just plays out naturally in the world.

You can lead a cat to a tree and kill two birds with it (the tree, not the cat).

To quote the 2nd Earl of Rochester:

Life has no purpose. It is everywhere undone by arbitrariness. I do this and it matters not a jot if I do the opposite.

I noticed a little sign in the queuing lane outside Wilkos recently that asked for people to observe a minute’s silence for all those lost to Corona. Why? I’m tired of everyone treating this virus like it’s some kind of VIP. Are we going to observe a minute’s silence for all those who’ve lost their lives to cancer, or to heart disease? No. So why Corona?

You can have a mystery box in your story, but you can't make your story the mystery box.

Living in a newly seismically active area means your lower back is forever sore as it tenses up whenever a big truck goes by... or your chair just moves in a way you weren't expecting.

    so - much - fun

The classrooms at work have sliding doors. One of the rooms has an upstairs neighbor that rumbles at just the right frequency when opening and closing.

Happy thread? That won't be a problem this semester, thanks Corona!
