    Well, it would sound like,

    'Would you be my bater-reader?'

'Sure, I'll see how it goes.'

'Be sure to tell me how it goes, bater.'

    'Enough now, hmm.'

    Ah. Interesting. :)

Interesting side-note: The way people lose their regional accents when they sing.

Something I've always noticed, that very few British singers sound "British"* when they sing, unless, like Kate Nash, they make a concerted effort to maintain and emphasize their accent through song. Funny that the flattening of the singing voice for most people goes in the direction of the American Midwestern Accent, to include Americans who have strong regional accents of their own, other than Midwestern, and again, unless they make a concerted effort to project their regional accent through song as many Country singers do.

    http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2013/08/why-british-singers-lose-their-accent-when-singing/

*To all: I am fully aware that there is no one single British accent, so please let's not digress into that realm for the bazillionth time. I've been to the UK. I spent a few months in Bedford. I'm fully aware that accents in the UK can change dramatically, sometimes from one town to the next.

@Wreybies I must call upon your mystical powers again.

My mother & I were discussing unmemorable vs imemorable, which went to etymology explaining spellings & meaning based on language of origin like impregnate vs impregnable, one having French roots I believe & the other Latin.

We talked about the history of conquering of England & how the Romans, Anglo-Saxon-Jutes, and French affects the direction the English language took.

We got distracted about how typing disposed of the letter/symbol for the TH sound because it looked too much like a Y.

And now we're wondering if the word "you" came from a misreading of "thou?"

I'm sorry I'm asking you to work when you're off work. I just find linguistics all so fascinating, yet no one seems to know anything about it. . .

No. Though I know what you're talking about as regards the dropping of the letter thorn and the misreading of phrases in the modern day, such as Ye Olde Candle Shop. Since most modern speakers of English are not completely familiar with when to use ye, they make a vague assumption that maybe it's a possessive, which it is not. It should read exactly like The Olde Candle Shop because, as you already know, that Y is really meant to be a thorn (which in some fonts looks very much like a Y) and that first word is pronounced The because that's the word that it is.

Ye, you, your, yours are etymologically related to their latinate kin vos, vous and usted. These words and their forms, within the Indo-European spectrum, are very, very old and predate any font confusion that may have arisen later between thorn and Y.

I f-ing knew it! When I was saying "Thour" instead of "your" and "thardstick" instead of "yardstick", I knew I was right!

If you want to get really nerdy about it, here we have 2nd person singular, dual, and plural for Old English. Ignore the dual pronouns because we lost those quite early on and nothing remains of them at all. You already know what a thorn is (þ), so you know to pronounce that just like a voiced th. When you know that, you can see that the singular thou, thee, thine are already in place, just spelled in a funky way. Same with ye, you, your.

Nominative is the subject of the sentence, the actor.
Accusative is what we now call the direct object, the thing that the verb acts directly upon.
Genitive is what we now call possessive, it also includes something called partitive which means this is part of that. It's why my house and this house of mine mean the same thing.
Dative is thought of now as the indirect object. It's the recipient or benefactor of the action acted upon the direct object.

I have been toying with the notion to post some truly cringe worthy old stuff
for fun, and/or maybe legit pursuance. I just don't know as it is 12yrs old now,
and not really sure anyone would find it worth fixing/updating/continuing.

What to do what to do... (Shrugs) :)
