Possibly of interest: "we regret to inform you" podcast, reviewing career rejections and what we can learn from it, not all subjects are writers, though. Link: https://play.acast.com/s/weregrettoinformyou/f3962847-6d56-4e68-9318-206544b9bb2c
@SethLoki Get a clutch of stuff away to...BBC Upload/Manchester - words to the effect of ...really easy submission process, and umm, community values, umm, and anyway - 2 stage process. - producer, jockey to airtime..
@matwoolf -- Great writing! And it's super you're getting out there. The radio and now this. You're on a roll, my friend.
Some progress, but still rejections for my 108,000 word debut sci fi novel. DAW sent a pro forma rejection. A well known UK lit agent had seen my book last autumn and asked for a full MS. He came back 2 weeks later with a rejection but a 2 page list of positives, negatives on plot and some more technical issues (a writing tic I had developed). I withdrew the book as I felt his comments were valid and spent 4 months re working it. I resubmitted mid-end Feb to about 20 SF agents in the UK. Had a couple of instant rejections but the agent with the interest read the full MS. He rejected but said he really enjoyed it, just didn’t love it enough to make an offer when he only takes 3 or 4 projects a year. He again made some encouraging comments and said another agent may well take it. So I’ve got to be happy and keep plugging away ?
Who am I kidding? No payment. My reward to google "enjoyed matwoolf's story" for perpetuity, until the end of time.
Anyone with an active Duotrope subscription able to tell me the average response time from The Fiddlehead?
It says the average is 80 days and the median is 53 days. There's only 3 responses logged for the last month all around 170. But I've got a submission that's been with them over 400 days. It still says "in-progress." How many days are you out with them?
Thank you my friend! My submission has been out with them for 163 days so the guillotine is probably going to come down in the next few days based on those numbers haha You've been waiting ages to hear back from them!
I don't post links to my work on the forum. I use my real name with writing and don't want that connected to me on here. But a lot of us on this thread know who each other is so I don't mind sending some of you guys links if you want to check it out. But on the forum, I'm just going to stay deadrats. On a side note, if we're already friends here and know each other, we should link up on social media. I always post links to stuff I publish there or news about my writing career. I'll share your stories if you share mine. And that goes for any of you regulars. I know some of us are already connected. But who couldn't use more friends?
Or maybe you're just at the beginning of a long wait. It can be really hard to tell with a lot of these places. And given the state of the world, I don't feel right about checking in on a story when I can clearly see the status on Submittable. Otherwise, I might check at this point. I don't know. It's not my longest submission. I think they're a pretty tough market to crack. And if they need a year or two before buying my story, that's okay. It's better than a quick (or quicker rejection).
I’d love to connect with you on social media, I’d really like to read your stories. However I realise you don’t know me that well, so I’ll leave it up to you! I use Facebook for all kinds of personal stuff so that might not be that interesting for you. I barely post on Twitter but from now on I am going to use it to post about my writing so if you wanted to follow me there you can find me at @uniKH80.
I'm happy to connect on SM. I'm mainly on Facebook, although I don't post there much on a personal level, mostly just art stuff. I'm friends with DR, catch her Arrowsmith links there, very good they are too. If anyone has a link to their Facebook pages then I'll friend up, no worries.
Happy to befriend you on FB if you don’t mind many photos of my cat and mental health talk and pictures of me doing handstands. https://m.facebook.com/katie.heath.39 Does this work?
An odd Facebook page that, until I thought it might be the mobile version of Facebook. Anyway, I found you on the normal FB page and added you as friend. You can do as many handstands as you like, no worries. I'm not really into the personal side of FB as much as others, I mainly use it to post stuff I do from time to time. Occasionally I will reply to fiends on there though, it all depends on what time I have and on whether I'm taking notice, sometimes I get caught up in stuff.
