Clicking "Notifications" does show subscriptions anymore

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by rhduke, May 24, 2013.

(yeah typo in the title.. I meant *doesn't) Just noticed this a few days ago. I liked how I could easily see the most updated subscriptions. It's not a big deal really, I just need a few more clicks more to see them, but it was kind of convenient. Any reason this was removed?

I'm actually not familiar with this. Are you saying that under the notification section in the top right of the screen, on every page, you could see most recently updated subscription threads? I've never been able to see that myself, but you should be able to see it in the profile. If this existing, I didn't remove it on purpose.

I've never seen it under notifications and I've been here as long. In some parts of the forum I have to go to 'Community' first and then to 'quicklinks'. I've not seen anything change.

Maybe a false memory, rhduke? ;)

Yeah. If I just clicked on the "Notifications" tab, it would give me updated subscriptions. If I clicked the little arrow inside of it, I would get my inbox. Now I just get my inbox no matter where I click. Meh whatever, maybe it began as a bug in the first place.

eddddit: well it looks like the functionality moved to the "Settings" button. This is weird but I'm just glad I can easily see my subs now. Sorry for the strange thread.

I wonder if that was a 3.5 thing? I switched to 3.2 to fix other problems.

For the 3.5 theme, there are no longer any drop-down menus for "Community," "Forum Actions," and "Quick Links." Also, "Private Messages" is missing from that toolbar. I wasn't sure if these things were removed on purpose or not, so I thought I'd mention them.

Edit: the drop-down menus started working again.

What's more sad is that I didn't even know that was there to begin with..

No worries. I never noticed this under Notifications myself. If it was there though, it seems useful and I'd like to restore it. I'll do a little research when I get the time.

It should have only been like that for a few minutes - that's my fault for editing a live style. Woops. It should be back/fixed.

Did it happen to look something like this:

    - or was it listing the actual threads under the notifications bar?

Yeah, it was like that for a minute or so, and then it went back to normal. Thanks for fixing it.

Cant see the picture. It wouldn't list threads under the notification bar, it would basically send me to the "Settings" page and list the subscriptions there (with the settings menu on the left side).

I see. I added a modification that added this feature, you should see it now. The only issue is that you have to mark those threads read/view the latest posts in the thread for the notification to go away...

And the forum going on and out of Twilight Zone continues.

I didn't change my settings, and I didn't get emails about new posts in subscribed threads (that I don't want), but suddenly there is a notice that I've never had before:

    Go figure.

Never mind, I see Daniel's last post. Make it go away. I don't want it. :( Just when I think I might be getting those last two reputations I need to get to 200, or a new friend request or a nice PM, I get a notice I don't need. ;) )

And it's not going away despite my reading the new thread posts.

Notifications never previously notified me of new posts in subscribed threads. I'm actually irritated now that it does. I logged on tonight to see 7 notifications, which is far more than I've ever had before. I liked it better when it actually told me something useful -- like I got rep or a new message. New posts in subscribed threads I can see myself or by going to Settings. Is there any way we can change our personal settings so it does not include new posts in subscribed threads? It has now made "Notifications" meaningless to me, and I'll likely miss something like a PM or rep. I like to thank if I get rep, and I'll probably miss some now, since when I see a huge number of notifications, I'll have to ignore it, since who cares if someone posted subsequently in a thread I posted to?

I know right. Why did that just start. I went through the settings and can't turn it off. It being on my page was enough, this is too much.

I don't have the problem, since I've unsubsribed to everything due to the ridiculous amount of emails sent out otherwise...

But if I don't think that I would like getting notifications of subsequent posts.

YES!!! Please make it stop!! I've been on for about 5 minutes and am already incredibly irritated. The damn things don't even go away.
Seriously - who cares when someone makes a new post? It's already there in New Posts AND in settings. How many places do we need to see new posts in a thread?

I'm not getting any notifications. Under General Settings, you can unsubscribe to all threads. That should help until Daniel addresses the problem.

I hate to unsubscribe to all threads, though. I like being able to see them if I want to in Settings. I already have all threads set to NONE as far as notifications, so to me, NONE should mean NO notification, subscribed or not. We're writers. Words should have meaning.

I thought it was just me...apparently not.

I never checked my subscribed threads on the subscription page anyway, so I went ahead and deleted them all. Somehow, they still haunt me...
