    Rick n Morty

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Rick n Morty, Feb 29, 2016.

    Hello, everyone!

I am an aspiring writer who tried to join this forum a few days ago, but it wouldn't send me the confirmation email. It took me awhile before I could get it to do so.

I really want to post my story ideas here, but it seems I have to be registered for two weeks, make two critiques of someone else's work, and post 20 comments (not counting the critiques), and that kind of annoys me.

But I know a lot about storytelling and characterization. I've read Chris Vogler's "The Writer's Journey" multiple times. (I tried reading "Hero of a Thousand Faces", but I didn't understand a word of that gibberish.) And TV Tropes is one of my favorite sites.

It's nice to see that people here actually understand what constructive criticism is. I've been on sites where people's ideas of criticism consist of vague troll comments like "wut".

BTW, are images of copyrighted cartoon characters allowed here as avatars?

Your MLP avatar is perfectly fine. :agreed:

Our culture of critique is based on the idea that you can't make use of the Workshop to post your own stuff until you've given two decent crits of your own to others. It helps keep things at a certain level, as you have noticed. :bigwink: The other rules of which you made mention serve the same purpose. It helps filter out those who aren't serious. Nothing is ever 100%, but it definitely helps.

Make sure to read through the Forum Rules and the New Member Quick Start just to get your bearings.

    And, have the fun.

Don't worry. I've already read through those a couple times. I usually read the rules before a join a site.

I'm guessing this site is mostly focused on talking about rules of plot and characterization, amirite?

Plot, characterization, setting. We're also a "novels" leaning forum more than anything, though we do have place for poetry, scripts, etc. But if you mean the "personality" of the forum, yeah...

BTW, for the writer's workshop, are you allowed to post your ideas in Wikipedia synopsis form?

Because I have a movie-length story idea, but I'm not very good at writing in script form, and I'm not the best at prose, so I chose to write it as a synopsis so the only thing I would have to worry about is the plot and characterization.
