    Ripped From the Headlines...

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by NateSean, Apr 2, 2011.

Do you ever let real life events inspire your writing?

For example, Sherrilyn Kenyon worked Hurricane Katrina into the plot of her Dark-Hunter series. A real life event, obviously, but her characters reacted to it and as many of them lived in New Orleans it added a layer of realism to her fantasy universe.

In an episode of Highlander: The Raven, the murdered son of Amanda's former lover is involved in a government plot to lace grain with estrogen in order to sterilize government targets. This episode was inspired by real life events.

Does anyone else do this? Are you considering doing it?

A writer would be a fool not to take inspiration from anything and everything he or she observes.
