RP Kickstarter!

This thread is for the posting of proposed games before approval by an RP Mod.

There is NO requirement to post in the RP Kickstarter before submitting to the RP Mods. However, posting here first will help you gauge player availability, interest and the clarity of your RP.

Please post full game descriptions with history, plot opening, rules and character sheets. Reserve brainstorming for the 'RP General Chat and Ideas'.

Interested players should limit their responses to stating their interest and asking clarifying questions of the GM.

Would anyone be interested in a HArry Potter RPG? 'Cause I'm looking for players, lol.

HARRY POTTER:

Retold

The Story: Harry Potter is famous in the Wizarding World as the Boy Who Lived. He defeated Lord Voldemort, the most powerful Dark Wizard of all time, as an infant and no one knows how. In his first year at Hogwarts, he defeated Voldemort again by taking down Professor Quirrel, who was a temporary vessel for the Dark Lord's soul. Now Voldemort is in hiding once again and no one can guess his next move, or how long Harry Potter can survive with followers of the Dark Lord coming after him...

The Plot: The point of this RPG is to usurp the plot of the original Harry Potter stories. You will create your own original character that goes to Hogwarts and interact with Harry and friends, as well as help to stop the Deatheaters and any other threats to the school. Make the story your own and feel free to make your character as crazy/unique as you wish. Do you think you can stop Voldemort more efficiently than Harry, Hermione and Ron did? Then prove it!

(Sidenote: The GM will control all original characters, including Harry, Draco, Hermione and Ron, but these are not the same characters from the story. They will have the same personalities, but certain aspects might be tweaked a bit. Keep in mind: your interactions with them will change them as well.)

Spells: In this story you will have to use original JK Rowling spells to do magic. I will include a few basic spells and a link to a page where you can see even more. (Remember, just because you say a spell doesn't mean it automatically works. The other players still have the chance to block the spell.)

Alohomora: Opens locked doors.
Expelliarmus: Pushes back an enemy or makes their wand fly out of their hand.
Levicorpus: Makes someone float, can also be used to propel enemies into the sky.
Lumos: Creates light on the tip of your wand.
Aguamenti: Produces a jet of water from the tip of your wand.
Avada Kedavra: Instantly kills your target.
Confringo: Causes your target to burst into flames.
Confundo: Confuses your target momentarily.
Petrificus Totalis: Completely petrifies your enemy like a statue.
Diffindo: Cuts or rips objects.
Expecto Patronum: Conjures a ghostly animal spirit to defend you.
Protego: Reflects minor jinxes and curses back at the attacker.

Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_spells_in_Harry_Potter

For mundane things like packing a suitcase or making a toilet flush, you can simply wave your wand or have your character say "Pack!" or "Flush!"

Rules:

Do not control other players (or any original HP characters).

Cussing is allowed, but do not use it too excessively.

Do not God-mod, you are not invinceable and your char can be hurt, so do not be wreckless.

Remember to have fun usurping JK Rowling's story. :)

Erik-the-Enchanter!

Sounds interesting Erik, but I am not sure if going with Harry, Ron and Hermione is going to work. The only game I ever hosted was a Harry Potter game as well, and it was quite succesfull (I hosted it on hexrpg.com). I deliberately steered away from Harry Ron and Hermione. They are hard to impersonate and you have loads of expectations to weigh up to. Besides, everyone will probably either try and be friends with Harry or become an adversary.

Let me rephrase, the problem isn't in the idea, it's that it will be hard to manage those characters, even more so because you as a GM will have all these teachers, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Voldie etc to play. It is an overcommitment in my opinion. I went with a plot involving Grindewald. Not saying you should do that as well, but consider that it will be HARD to manage those NPC's and you will have to be online at a regular basis to manage a game of this scope. Seriosuly, it will die horrendously if you can't nurture it on a consistent basis.

Notice that I say consistant, putting in one hour a day into the game every weekday is infinitely better than hopping on and off at your own convenience and investing 6 hours one day and just 15 minutes the other. Sometimes real life will force you to be a bit erratic in terms of activity, but the more consistent you are, the better, especially with a game of this scope.

(I found back the original introduction I made for that HP game): http://webdev.mmcprojects.net/shimage/dynamic/images/a6377223HP_RP_Welcome.png

Oh and I also made a spell-casting system for that game, so that players could see how effective their spells were. They could even cast spells on each other and depending on the skills of the character that was being attacked, the level of succes varied, it was quite cool. You can see the remains of it here: http://hprp.mmcprojects.net/?user=Rafael

EDIT: found even more stuff, players had to pick good and bad traits for their characters :p

Well, I don't think it would be THAT hard to play three chars at once, lol. In the last RP i hosted ("Vampyres") I played at least five or six at once. I only had like five players, but I still kept up with the game. I always get on for an hour or so everyday anyway so keeping it nurtured won't be a prob. I've been reading some of the rp's going on right now, even though I'm not involved, just for fun, lol.

Anyway, I look forward to playing lots of chars at once. Having Harry, Ron and Hermione in the story is important too because its unrealistic for them NOT to come up sooner or later at Hogwarts. And I had a plan for classes, the students would all only take one class at a time, that way I wouldn't have to play a bazillion Professors at once. There won't be any reason for them to go contact Professor McGonagal, for instance, if she's not their teacher and they don't know her. Its hard to explain, but I know how to make it work as soon as the game gets started. It doesn't seem that challenging to me, honestly.

Are you interested in the HP game, or were you just trying to give me some pointers? Any help is welcome, I'm just curious.

Both. I am intersted and I am trying to give you some pointers. The Harry Potter RP I did was perhaps even more ambitious as it tried to recreate the whole hogwarts experience by having the players join the school at year one, and guiding them through all seven years. I was at 79 thread pages and halfway through year one, then I left. I think it was because I returned here and I couldn't keep up with both. I very much regret leaving that game, there were some absolutely great players and characters in there.

TL;DR: Harry Potter RP's are ambitious.

What you might be overlooking is that EVERYONE is depending on all those characters. Harry, Ron and Hermione aren't just three characters, they are three BIG, IMPORTANT characters. It can be done, but don't understimate the effort involved.

With some modifications I could, if you want to, make that combatting system I linked to work for your game as well. It's a digital way of throwing dice and it is fair since it takes in alot of variables... lemme know if you want to use that ;)

Just so you know Erik, I am doing a HP RP of my own, one I started three months ago and then abandoned (on a different forum). I am picking it back up now and hosting it on Panthos. Point is; I am not stealing your idea, I am just continuing my game. I am sure you are fine with that, but if you are not, I can prove that I started that other game three months ago. ;)

I'd likely join yours as well though...

You should, lol, mine won't be normal in any sense of the word. I'm changing the gender/race/sexual orientation of some main characters to shake things up, as well as adding some new ones. I'm gonna wreck JK Rowlings plot, lol.

Hello everyone!

A few months ago I created an RPG called Scrolls of Iria: Shadows. You probably won't remember, because it flunked :p

However... recently I have been getting through a number of PMs from newish forum users, sending me character sheets asking if the game is still running. I told them the game is dead.

But it got me thinking. People seem interested, maybe I should try again. Soooooooo I am asking all my fellow RPGers kindly if they would read the game rules post of the Scrolls of Iria: Shadows. If anyone likes the story, the combat mechanics, etc then please put your feedback here.

Many thanks,

Your Friendly Neighbourhood Fox!

Scrolls of Iria: Shadows

Story

Our story begins in the vast realm of Hanavar, a continent filled with all manner of terrain; forests and jungles and deserts and plains, mountains and caverns and tundras and swamps.

And nestled within the snowy peaks of the north is a kingdom known as Highguard, where the stout and hardened Karos family reside. They rule the mountains with a cold strength and a just fairness, seeking to uphold honour and truth wherever they can. But all is not well in Highguard, as whispers of evil and shadows have entered the keep in the night. Lord Robert Karos has been awoken to find his Commander incredibly worried in the study.

You are a member of the castle of Highguard, safely tucked away behind its iron and stone. You are part of the house in some way or another, perhaps a chef or servant or squire, or maybe a farmhand, soldier or knight. Some will know magic; others the skill of steel; and perhaps one or two will have the craft of thievery. Soon your real journey will begin and your destiny revealed. But for now, your presence in the keep is nearly invisible, and the Lord and Ladies see right through you.

(Your story starts late at night, with your duties finished and the castle quiet. You may be sleeping, or perhaps enjoying the company of others in your quarters.)

Area

The realm of Hanavar is large, stretching from the northern peaks of Highguard, all the way south the Marshes of Moar. The island is shaped like a star, each point at the North, South, East and West.

To the East is a kingdom time forgot, filled with ancient ruins and secrets not yet unearthed. It is known as only as Iria. To the West is the kingdom of Sin’Das Rei, where the mysterious Drow dwell. But in the center lies ‘The Three Rings’. ‘The Three Rings’ are the collective name for the kingdoms in the middle, known as Darn, Boradith and Terog. They are ruled by three brothers, so that family bonds keep the peace. Though this has not kept true.

Races

Drow: Drow are dark elves and have kept themselves hidden away in the jungle cities of Sin’Das Rei. Most stay with their own, but some have sought a different life, one that holds more freedom. However the rest of the world are wary of the Drow, for they are mysterious and fearsome creatures. Most follow the law to letter, and do not stray from the rules set by their leaders, whether Drow or not. Though there have been some exceptions.

Sun Elves: ‘Sun Elves’ as they are known have fallen from grace, with their homeland of Morolith torn asunder some hundred years ago. Its ruins sit on a small island to the West of Hanavar. At the time of destruction the Sun Elves seeked refuge in Sin’Das Rei, which was refused. So they looked to The Three Rings for support, but it came at a price. For these hundred years or more they have lived in Darn in camps of squalor, treated for the rest of their days as second class citizens. As for their relations with the Drow? Let’s just say it’s very icy at best.

Humans: Ah the humans. A formidable group of strength and cunning. Few races have risen to power so quickly in a millennia - yet these folks are smart and organised. The Drow and Dwarves would be more fearful of their actions, if the Humans weren’t bickering between themselves. Unfortunately, the long held ‘family ruling’ law in The Three Rings is causing problems for the people, as each of the three brothers claims to be the true power of the kingdoms.

Dwarves: The Dwarves are the explorers of the world. They travel the realm, camping in tents outside towns and cities, selling strange artifacts and showing off their crafting skills. Dwarves tend to be nomadic and have a tendency for violence, which they try to conceal in their inner circles. No one is quite sure where they came from though. Tales tell of them burrowing out from under the ground, but most believe it to be a commoner’s myth. Like the Drow, some have decided to settle and find stability.

Combat

I am hoping to bring a new type of combat to the forums, so this is a little experimental. It uses DICE. You have been warned.

Each player will be allowed an action, which will be determined by their character. So wizards will not be limited to one ‘ice’ spell, for example. Instead the player will write the action how they want it to happen, ending their post just before the outcome. If they are ‘successful’ (which I will get to in a moment) then I will write the outcome of their attack.

Here are some examples: A wizard casts a fire spell at the enemy, and it is successful so the enemy catches fire (and most likely dies). However there may be consequences to setting the man on fire, maybe he runs into a curtain in panic and starts a larger fire, which now endangers the group.
Another example would be that a warrior swings his heavy longsword sideways towards an enemy. He fails, the enemy ducks and his sword lodges deep into a tree, giving the enemy time to strike.

So how is an action determined? By a dice. I will roll a dice, and will then write the conclusion of the roll. The first dice in the game will be six sided, and if a 3 or lower is rolled you will fail your action. I will be completely honest with the dice, so if the games against you, it’s just your luck.

However items can improve that luck. Specials Items (special armour, swords, trinkets etc.) will give you action points, which will be added to the roll for a higher score. (I will tell you when you have found a special item, you will not start with one).

As the game progresses, larger sided dice (10 sided etc.) will be used, which will indicate harder enemies and more sway in the dice rolls.

Now for Health. There will be no HP etc. Just three different states of health. ‘Healthy’, ‘Injured’, and ‘Fallen’. Fallen does not mean dead, but you can no longer participate with actions until after the battle is finished, or someone heals you.

One last point. Actions are not just for combat. In special circumstances where, for example, a door needs to be picked by a thief, they will need to roll the dice. Not on every occasion, but certainly on the important ones. (P.S - Or a large warrior could roll to smash the door down, but you’d bring a lot more attention to yourself!)

Classes

There are three four classes – Warrior, Wizard, Thief and Ranger. But two of the same class can be different. For instance you could be a huge strong and muscular warrior, able to almost throw men; or you could be a small and agile warrior, cutting down men swift and silently. Wizards can be mages, healers, whatever! It’s up to your description what type they are! But just be fair about it – clearly a small and agile warrior isn’t going to be the strongest.

Rules

You know the rules. If you don’t then check the other RPGs. Just be friendly and play nice.

Days gone by when all is gone

This forum is the story of teenagers that have survived through a nuclear war.

The war started back in 2010, but back then it was little more than a argument, a small island off the coast of Taiwan called Naha was found to hold the biggest reserve of oil ever, over 150,000,000,000,000 gallons of oil was easily predicted to be held in the ground of the country and its oceans.
The official owners of the island was Taiwan but huge payments from the British, Americans, Australians, Russians and Chinese were offered, being the greatest consumers of oil, America bided a total of 1,000,000 billion Dollars for the ownership of the island, only to be out matched by China with a 5% extra offer followed by Russia with a 10% extra offer, The Smaller consumers Britain and Australia joined funds to attempt to over throw the payments with a further 15% extra offer.
In 2011 the Americans had offered to pay half the amount the UK and Australia was paying for half its ownership of the island, the deal seemed to be considered by the Taiwan government and was decided over a 3 year period what to do.
In 2014 the Taiwan government agreed to the offer and the island sold to Australia and the UK and America for a huge offer, upon the agreement Russia invaded the small country in attempt to steal the oil resources, this was Russia's last attempt to end their recession that had plagued them for years.
On the 25 of June 2014 The three countries declared war on Russia after its attempt of stealing resources, the day and age of biological weapons was around and Australia was hit by a deadly plague developed by the North Koreans that were sided with Russia.
Over the following months America and Russia sent biological weapon to war in Naha.
The UK stood still as they attempted to not be affected by the war.
On the 17 of august the UK were hit by a series of nuclear weapons from North Korea, the effects were devastating. you Role-play as a fellow teenage survivor affected by the Nuclear attack in London.
your goal. Simply to survive in the end of the world apocalypse, No Government, No laws, No rules,

Just survival...

My RPG - Experiments
In the not-too-distant future, the world has been wracked by nuclear and biochemical warfare. The EU and America have joined forces against Russia, China and Japan, and both sides are scrambling to develop the ultimate biological weapon. The Americans have created the Bio-Weaponry Research and Experimentation Laboratories, a huge underground facility under the plains of Utah, now a smouldering, nuclear wasteland, to do just that. The BWREL conducts horrific experiments on people they have taken from the few remaining habitable zones in America; "all in the name of science". The constant experiments have mutated the experimentation dummies, as they are called, far beyond recognition as humans.

This story takes the viewpoint of a few of the experimentation dummies. The ultimate aim is to break out of the facility through any means possible. As already mentioned, the constant experiments have mutated the experimentation dummies, so when you are making a character, go wild with the possibilities! Extra limbs; additional senses - but remember that not all the alterations will be beneficial; mutation is a pretty random business, after all.

Ok, now for the rules:
1. No "God Mode". I will reject stupidly overpowered characters or ridiculous entries to the story.
2. Remember that this is a collaborative writing project - it's not just you writing. Don't hate on other people - they're trying as hard as you.
3. Out of character talk is only to be posted in the discussion thread.
4. Please try to write a good paragraph at least when you post and advance the story - no "one-liners".
5. When you've thought of a character, working from the character specs below, PM it to me before posting so that I can approve it.
6. Have fun :)

And finally, the character specs:
Real Name:
Experiment ID Number:
Alterations:
Appearance:
Age:
Any additional information:

Hello @Newtonium and @motormouth1312!

Firstly I just want to say welcome to the forum, we are always happy to have more members! Especially in the RP section :) (We are all a bit mad here)

I understand that you are both trying to start your own role playing games here, which is great and we all love a new story to be a part of. But considering you are new to the forum, some may be a bit skeptical to join your games.

So if you will allow me, I would like to make a suggestion of joining one or a number of the games currently running in the forum, to better acquaint yourself with the forums and the other RPers. Also it gives them a chance to get to know you too. None of us bite, I promise. :)

Again its only a suggestion, so if you wish to push forward with your own games then all the more power to you!

Kind regards,

Your Friendly Neighbourhood Fox!

I got your PM thanks! I'm not entirely sure about running this game yet - I want to but I don't have enough players at the moment. I have the backing of yourself, @Pheonix and @Arannir but I would prefer at least one more player before I decide to post the game.
