    If I may

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Bone2pick, Jul 19, 2019.

What's the proper way to punctualize "If I may" in dialogue?

    "If I may, . . ."

    "If I may – . . ."

    "If I may: . . ."

I thought as much, which was why it was my first option. But for whatever reason it looked odd when I was writing today.

If I may hijack this thread...
Statement made about an overprotective friend... does this say he is overprotective? Or not?

"He was nothing if not overprotective."

LOL Perhaps not as helpful as you might think...

EDIT: Oh GAWD, my dyslexia kicked in... I read your reply backwards, as "Yes, do it." and I thought you meant I should hijack the thread.... gonna disappear into the background now...

    Thank you!
