Frankly I think this would have been more powerful as a one sentence story. Keep the first one. The second overexplains it.
Maybe "The ring was left on the table". That tells it all. Or if you want... "The ring was left on the table; perfume, in the air". Or something like that but better. Hope I'm not being a jerk. I like what you have - I'm not criticizing. This just came to mind. There's power in brevity.
