    Allow myself to introduce... myself

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Ohlookabunny!, Jul 21, 2012.

Well, I've been here almost a week and haven't actually introduced myself, so we'll start with the fact that I'm an introvert. When provoked, I will ramble until I run out of words, then retreat to my hole. So, I'll try to be brief.

I have a strange habit of buying books I never read. I just like them. I don't like reading books on an eReader. I like bookcases, hardbacks, preferably leather, gold and silver edged pages, and the clever bookmarks from the libraries. I like to organize some of the books by color. I like to read books that remind me of why I liked reading in the first place, which includes books intended for 5th graders. Most everything I like to read has an element of fantasy, although I rarely read high fantasy. I like ghost stories and werewolves and vampires. I like the smell of books, and my best days in elementary school weren't the dreadful parties where some whining girl went on and on until she talked me into trading gifts for something I didn't want just to get her to go away. They were the days we got to paint pumpkins and the days we got the Scholastic book order forms. The Long Winter was the first book I ordered.

I would love to find the right critiquing partner who could help me find my way through the book (a series) I'm working on. I also have the first draft of the first part of a trilogy written, but it needs to be completely rewritten. I'm a little stuck on part two, as well, so I lost enthusiasm. My last "editor" quit critiquing to write her own book. I received an email that said it's wonderful, and she'd like to hear more. Months later, she said she'd written a book and found a publisher. So, ideally, I'd like to find a non-writing editor who isn't at risk of being inspired to write. :)

I'm also an artist. Hope this wasn't too long.

    Welcome to Writing Forums, Ohlookabunny!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.

Welcome! Your username is great, hehe.
I'm pretty crazy about books myself... just holding them, smelling them, and of course, reading them is pretty awesome.
Enjoy your stay here, hopefully you'll find someone to help you (can't be me, I'd just start writing ;) ).

Ohlookabunny...I thinks that's what I say to my dog every night in the park! Just like her, you caught my attention. Hopefully we're all inspired to write, but hopefully we're also all inspired to help each other write too! Welcome...see you in the blogs!

Greetings, user of legacy hardware! I too love the feel of books even if I own very few. I get all my books from the library. I have a special thing about libraries. In elementary school, I couldn't go outside during PE and recess. As a result, I spent about 2 hours every day in the library for about 4 years. Well, I hope you enjoy your stay here, and I'd love to give help if you want any from a novice like me.

Legacy hardware... Heh heh... Before I looked at your user ID, I thought is that what their calling non-ereaders these days?
(to the rest of you, it's an inside joke regarding the PS2. )

Thank y'all for the warm welcome! Please excuse my absence; we've had a week full of company, and I just got in from my grad class a couple of hours or so ago, but it's my LAST week! Next week, I'll be a different person. And never never never never never will I go back for another degree!!! I'm done.

Re the name... I have a lot of bunny stuff. It actually started with just one, and even the inanimate ones multiply! I've gotten them under control now. Except that necklace from last Tues... :-\ Plus, it goes back to being easily distracted.

I actually found a critique partner! Pretty pleased about it. :)

Thanks, again! :). I'll be in my cave.

I'm really into seeing other people's work, and if you'd like I'll take a look-see at whatcha got despite the fact you've already got a critique partner. I don't know whether it's just for them to see, or if you'll allow me to take a look. :/

Hahaa, when I read your username it made me want to look around the room just to check if there really was a bunny. And yeah, i have that habbit of buying books off a book order then realising that I probably shouldn't have ordered that book because I endup not reading them. Unless they REALLY interest me. But MAN! I jst love the smell and feel and presence of books. All my worries just seem to float away into some other alternate universe that only unlocks when I hold a book. I jst love the.. quote on quote "vibe" that they have. I am convince that I was some kind of book collecter/obsesser/addict in my past life. I also try to imagine my past life being back when technology didn't ruin brains and Mcdonalds didn't ruin out bodies. But that's a whole other story. Anyways, welcome to the form and I hope your time here! :)
