    Schizophrenic Authors

Discussion in 'Discussion of Published Works' started by J.P.Clyde, Jun 26, 2011.

I didn't know where to put this. Heaven knows where this belongs. But er this is a bit of a strange question.

What authors in our more modern of a time have or may have been diagnosed with schizophrenia?

    Hmmm - interesting question.

John Kennedy Toole perhaps - he wrote A Confederacy of Dunces.

For sure I know of John Nash, the mathematician - they made a movie about him called "A Beautiful Mind"

Philip K. Dick (who I love, GREAT sci-fi writer) - he said to have been diagnosed with schizophrenia in his teen years, but I'm not sure accepted the label, got treatment, or what...

Perhaps the better question is what writers have suffered some kind of mental illness? I'd imagine the most common would be depression and alcoholism or drug abuse.

Although, writers have so many "voices" in their head and stories to tell - perhaps we're all a little mad! LoL
