Since I'm playing in a future Earth I've been experimenting with fashion descriptions. Any thoughts about what images those names / descriptions bring up? I would rather not have to describe these things. A formal suitrobe (males) A tuxi (female) A corsage made out of bright colored feathers.
Suitrobe: I see a suit, but the jacket goes all the way to the floor. Tuxi: I see a woman in slacks, a white blouse, and a tuxedo vest. Corsage... Well, that's not clothing, but I see exactly what you described. A corsage wrapped on a wrist made with feathers instead of flowers.
I see a deliciously velvet and deeply crimson smoking jacket. Spoiler: suitrobe I see Isabella Rossellini during her I think crossdressing would be fun phase. Spoiler: tuxi I see a corsage made out of bright colored feathers.
hmmm... The suitrobe thing I was hoping to create an image more like this only made out standard suit material.
Formal suitrobe? Almost sounds like a clergy robe. Spoiler: Like this. Tuxi? To me that sounds like a more feminine incarnation of a tuxedo. The sound of the word makes it sound sexy (almost sounds like the word "sexy" too) or informal (as if it's short for "tuxedo"). Or both. A corsage made out of bright colored feathers? I suggest that you don't just call it "a corsage"; most people think of flowers when they read "corsage". "Feather corsage" could work, especially if the corsages in your world are adorned only with feathers.
Yes, the tuxi was supposed to imply a sexy version of a female tuxedo. The feather thing... meh The line I wrote was... William thought the man was a jackass, and what was up with the yellow feathers on his lapel?
That'll work. A corsage is usually something women wear on their wrists. A boutonniere is what you're describing.
To make this image pop into my head, you would need to reach over into another culture. I cringe at the idea of using dress kimono, since the whole The Future is Japanese! thing is done to death, but...
