Sending queries out for more than one book at a time

Discussion in 'Query & Cover Letter Critique' started by Nightstar99, Jul 27, 2016.

I'll soon be in the happy position of having a completed novel for which to send out query letters.

That'll then leave me with my other (left to rest) 90% finished novel to finish off, which shouldn't take too long.

They are similar genres. Is it advisable to do the rounds of agents and publishers with more than one piece at a time, or really exhaust all options with one work before you start again with another?

I understand that most query letters to agents result in no reply at all, or a long wait for a reply, so I would be sending a second book to people who had already not got back to me about the first one.

I assume there is no "right answer" to this, but would be interested in opinions, as I should be in a position to start my third book by the autumn.

If I don't get anywhere with that I'll try self publishing.
