The HOWL is a quarterly wildlife newsletter that I began writing seven years ago. Circulation isn't large (about 500 subscribers) but I'm kinda proud of it.
Main focus is Wyoming wildlife. Word of mouth, FB, and display in the museum where I work. Print only.
No. I brought it under the auspices of the museum and now cover publication costs with the museum budget. Since I did that, it also means writing it has become part of my job so I'm paid to write it.
Thank you. I've enjoyed doing it, and appreciate your interest, Kixia. Yes, other writers occasionally contribute, but I do most of it myself. Guidelines are fairly strict- science only, no creative non-fiction, fiction, poetry, or emoting about Grooving with Nature- which discourages folks who expect a publication to adjust itself to their output rather than producing work appropriate for the newsletter. Audience ranges from Game and Fish biologists to kids who like animals. I'm blessed with several wildlife photographers who generously donate their work for illustrations, knowing I have zilch for a budget; otherwise I use my own photos. The college graphic artist does the layout.
