Should I bother writing a chapter outline if I already have a synopsis?

Discussion in 'Publishing' started by Banes, Aug 25, 2011.

Should I bother writing a chapter outline if I already have a synopsis?

    I have my query letter.
    I have my cover letter.
    I have my manuscript.
    I have my synopsis.

Am I ready to submit my queries to agents?

Maybe, but that's something you have to decide on. It really depends on the publisher.

I'd check what the particular agent or publisher asks for.

yes!... some agents may want a chapter outline, so it's not a bad idea to have one ready, just in case...

same goes for both a short [1-2 pg] and medium [3-5 pg] synopsis...

Even if an agent doesn't ask for one, I would still write one for personal preference.

I don't mean to sound like a "noob", but is a chapter outline a brief summary of every chapter?

yes... a very brief summary... doesn't even have to be in formal sentences, just give an idea of what takes place... like this:

    and so on...

    hey, this could be fun!

why don't each of you do up a plot based on that little start and let me 'award' the creator of the best one [imo] postage-paid signed copies of the 4 books of my 6 that i still have copies of?
