To all my buds from Writingforums.com: I decided to join you here. The site's down again, and I just can't do without my daily dosage of chat. To all those who don't know me: My name's Sam, not Winchester, but still Sam. I love writing, especially action/adventure and techno-thriller. Tom Clancy is my favourite all-time author. I have written four novels to date, one of which I've self-published. I live in the Emerald Isle. No, it's not as glamorous as you might think. Fun, though. Never-ending fun. I don't know if I'll be as active here as I am on Writingforums.com, but I'm sure I'll get to know you over time. Glad to be here. Sam.
Hello Sam, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Even though this site bears some resemblance to WF.com, and was certainly inspired by it, I think we've developed our own unique identity. Hopefully the differences, as well as the similarities, will be to your liking. Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
No worries, Cogito. Even though it's different at writingforums.com, when I first joined I critiqued a lot before posting my work, mainly because it's also recommended that you do. So you won't have any problems on that count. Thanks for the welcome. Sam.
Hey guys, Welcome to WF.org, Sam. Sorry I didn't notice sooner that you joined. Folks, I can vouch for Sam . . . he's a good guy and writes a mean action scene. Course, he'll have to learn to write around the asterisks a few times in here! LOL NaCl
Dean - thanks for the PM explaining the ins and outs of this place. I appreciate it. Robin - damn, it's like the old clique back at WF.com! Good to see a familar face. Rump - how's the wee 'un doing? Good to hear from you. Everyone else - thank you. I look forward to getting to know all of you.
