The Amazing Mating Dance of the Peacock Spider

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by GingerCoffee, Aug 24, 2013.

I've been exploring life on Earth for the 'life on another planet' part of my story and this spider knocked my socks off. So I'm sharing.

The Amazing Mating Dance of the Peacock Spider

    Is evolution incredible or what?

Life on this planet is so amazing, it makes it difficult for us to invent something that nature hasn't already done!

This is the coolest thing I've seen all day! I like the big white mandibles - they look like beards, like these are grizzled old spiders out at the bar trying to attract the attention of the young ladies who won't have anything to do with them. Grandpa spiders desperate for once last fling before they can't any more.

I must say, I've never seen a spider I'd describe as "cute" before, but these are cute spiders!

Great. Really enjoyed this. Thinking, too, about how humans fit in here. Are we (in Western society anyway) the only animal species that expects our females to dress up in fancy gear to attract drably-clothed males?

Oh wow! Thanks for sharing Ginger, I always love reading stuff like this. I never thought spiders could be so colorful! :)

There has been so many times nature has just outright amazed me with it's majesty and (well) beauty.

I can't quite find the political undertones in Ginger's original post, but we'll be here to argue about them when we figure out what they are.

Being the spider lover that I am, I love this spider and would love to photograph or find one but it's a bit out of my area. Also, Australia has so many other things that would enjoy killing you. ;)

Jumping spiders are my favorite as well. I took this photo last year!

Spiders are amazing and I love photographing them and studying them. For me personally, it just reaffirms the glory and majesty of God's creation!

    Excellent post!
