Nano can be killer. Trying to grind out this novel while constantly revising and submitting my old one can feel like an emotional beat down. Querying is a kind of hell, for sure. Finding some songs about writing to play in my car when I'm on my way to work has helped a lot. They're about writing songs, but I like to pretend they're about writing novels. To all the people out there tonight Who are comforting themselves If you should happen to see my light You can stop and ring my bell I'm just sittin' here in this sty Strewn with half-written songs Taking one breath at a time Nuthin' much going on Nuthin' much going on Who the hell is he anyway, he never really talks much Never concerned with status but still leavin' them star struck Humbled through opportunities given despite the fact That many misjudge him because he makes a livin' from writing raps Put it together himself, now the picture connects Never asking for someone's help, or to get some respect He's only focused on what he wrote; his will is beyond reach And now it all unfolds, the skill of an artist nobody really knows how or why he works so hard It seems like he's never got time Because he writes every note and he writes every line And I've seen him at work when that light goes on in his mind It's like a design is written in his head every time Before he even touches a key or speaks in a rhyme I'm going to build a playlist. I've got more songs but some of them are too obvious. Do you have any songs that help you write?
Who was that female artist - the sister of a male singer - didn't she write a song about writing a novel? Arrgh! This is driving me nuts now. It was a really catchy song from about 10 years ago maybe. Colourful video of her running around a garden and she kept going under blankets.
