Bug Report Spell checker not offering corrections?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by OurJud, Nov 16, 2019.

When I spell a word incorrectly I get the red underline, but right click no longer gives me suggestions for the correct spelling.

Is this a forum bug or a browser one?

That would be a browser issue - the spellchecked is in your browser, not the forum software.

    Okay, cheers.

Done some digging and I can't see what I'm not doing. If I right-click in a text box, I have 'check spelling' ticked and I have a dictionary installed. Weird how it's just stopped working suddenly. Never mind, maybe when I reboot.

When in doubt, reboot. My browser has this fun habit of suddenly deciding to turn everything I click on into a download and the only way to fix it I've found so far is a task manager application shut down. Very irritating.

Not that it matters, as it wasn't a forum issue anyway. but for the record the reboot fixed this.

Honestly, most IT stuff really is. There isn't that many parts, and you can always reload a drive image if software goes sideways. Computers are easy most of the time.

I've always had a similar notion about stuff that stops working, any stuff. And that is to take it apart, wonder what the hell all the gubbins inside does, then put it back together and give it a try.

Admittedly it makes not one iota of difference 95% of the time, but just occasionally it starts working again.

That's my job most of the time. Technician stuff is generally fairly easy. When you take stuff apart and it magically works without fixing anything, there's quite a few things that could have happened. Breaking corrosion, dislodging objects, discharging built up capacitance, resetting relays, cutting processes stuck in loops...et cetera.

I do it often at work.

Many computer problems originate somewhere between the keyboard and chair.

Giving it a good whack takes less time and expertise—and produces approximately the same percentage of success.

Oh I’ve whacked more inanimate objects than I care to mention. Like you say doesn’t do much good but it usually makes me feel better.

Yep. There is that feel-good factor as well.
