Members of certain usergroups can't be ignored because they're considered staff. At least, that's how I think it works.

Those of us who moderate short story contests can't be ignored. Sorry, not my doing. You'll just have to resist reading and replying to posts.

"Baited" breath? Really? You're an English professor! You can do better than that! It's bated bated bated bated bated bated bated ... jeez.

It turns out ignorability is a problem on this forum. You'll just have to do the ignoring yourself. :)

I ignored someone once, but found it was too much fun to debate them!

I know what you mean. Besides, since when do we need a machine to not reply to posts for us? If we don't like what someone is saying, we don't have to read it, do we? And we certainly don't have to respond!

Also, I wanted to see what they were saying! Even if I didn't reply, I still wanted to see!

I can report that the Ignore function works just fine for blocking the OP.

Being that brevity is the soul of wit, a simple "Ooops" should have sufficed.

Did I use too many "o"s?

Yeah, but you lose points in the flamboyancy category. You can't be an English professor without the urge to satire, and thus dramatize said satire.

Darn I liked it when people had me on ignore, it would have made it a lot easier to win the new formal debates.

What does how well something can float in water have to do with an English essay?

Have you ever heard someone say, "That professor is full of hot air!" ?

Now I have known quite a few professors full of hot air, especially English Professors who think because they can sound professional and important, that they have have several honorary imaginary degrees and are professional comedians.

    Hi,
Have you talked to the person about their behavior? Maybe they'd be able to tone it down--they might not be aware that others are getting annoyed with them. I know that if I was crossing the line I'd want to know.

That would be mature and civil. Passive aggression is the norm around here
