    Strip Clubs

Discussion in 'Research' started by Mink, Mar 16, 2018.

I have never frequented a strip club and never will, but I have a need to know about them and their workers. Specifically, high end strip clubs that cater towards higher end clientele. The preference is for the dancers to be male so either a gay oriented strip club or one that caters to females. (My novel features a m/m relationship.)

    1. What kind of music would be played? Would words be included or would the music be strictly instrumental?

    2. Would there be the potential for "extra services"?

    3. What would the establishment look like? Or potentially look like?

    4. What kind of shows could be put on?

Any other information would be helpful! Thank you in advance!

Honestly, I think the answers to this could really work in any direction you want them to. Money can pretty much make anything happen.

    1. Generally, strip clubs play electronic music, or the music behind popular dance songs without the lyrics, but if someone walked in with enough money, you bet your ass they'd throw some lyrics on.

    2. Of course there is potential for extra services, even at low end places.

    3. Whatever you want it to: tables, stage(s), reflective surfaces, dim lighting.

    4. Whatever kind of shows you want, especially at high end places. The point of the show is to showcase the stripper. ETA: But, again, money talks. It's not a stretch to believe that high end services cater to the client with money.

@Spencer1990 : Thank you for your answers! I thought money would likely talk, but since I have limited experience with clubs of any kind let alone strip clubs, it's nice to have more backup.

I had a next door neighbor who was a ahem, "dancer" at a high end club.

She chose her own music for her...ehm...number. Usually something popular from the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Occasionally she'd use something that fit a theme. I remember her dancing to Aerosmith's "Love in an Elevator" when the club did an 80's theme night, for example. They used full songs, and the club payed the blanket license fees to use them.

I know this because the walls of my place were thin at the time and I could hear the music blaring whenever she practiced.

ETA: The type of music would depend mainly on whether or not the club could afford the blanket license fees.

ETA: I just remembered something funny that happened. A guy friend of mine (friend, not a date) came over for dinner one night and she walked by as he was getting ready to leave, and he turned to me, wide-eyed and goes, "Whoa, I know her from [name of club]!" Funniest thing ever. He looked at me like he'd just seen Santa Claus.

Yet being an Escort is completely legal. Granted it is under the guise of paid companionship,
they still have sex with the client. Though it costs way more for an Escort, than it does for
10min in the back with a Stripper.

There's no substitute for thorough research. Sounds like someone needs to make a special trip.

Agreed. Just like full on prostitution should be legal as well, as it is one of the oldest professions.
Though I think in the porn industry (outside of all the homemade sites out there), they have to
keep some pretty strict standards of conduct, compared to a couple sharing their vids and pics
    on a given site.

@Shenanigator : Hah! That's great! Thank you for answer, too. :)

@Carly Berg : Thank you for the information! The strip club's more of where they meet and only one (possibly two) scenes will take place there since the main character is the stripper, but it isn't a permanent gig.

@Cave Troll : I think being an escort is only legal, outside of places like Las Vegas, because they get around the anti-prostitution laws by not offering sex in writing or verbally. Some escorts also don't have sex with the person for whatever reason. I also think prostitution should be legal; people can do whatever they want with their body.

@John Grant : I have personal reasons as to why I can't go to a strip club outside of the majority of strip clubs being in shady areas of town and this town's already far from being safe.

Watch the movie Magic Mike and Magic Mike 2. They aren't necessarily high end, but they are male strippers.

The movie Armageddon has a strip club scene in a very high end club, of course it is female dancers but it still might help. Then you have the movie Showgirls, Strip-Tease, and The Hangover 2 has a scene in Bangkok where they are at a transvestite strip club. Varsity Blues has a good strip club scene in it, the movie Bachelor Party has a scene where women are in a male strip club with Nick the Dick. In Dogma Selma Hayek strips, From Dusk to Dawn is centered in a strip club, and Sin City has a strip club scene with Jessica Alba.

Yeah I'm a movie nut. Just FYI obviously some of these are going to have nudity, and the Hangover 2 one is kind of raunchy.

I haven't seen the Magic Mike movies, but I've seen all of The Hnagover movies. I've also seen Dogma, which I love and will continue to love. Selma Hayek's the one female that I like dancing. I saw Sin City, but was immensely bored during it so I don't remember much and Jessica Alba isn't my cup of tea visually.

I didn't think about movies being a source, but I should have since I've seen nearly all of the ones you listed and they weren't graphic enough to make me want to flip off the television.

What??? Then you haven't seen the uncut version of The Hangover 2. :superlaugh:

When they showed her in the dressing room and she described what they did I laughed my ass off.

Heyak is also a stripper in the From Dusk to Dawn movie.

From my properly spent youth: The dancers choose their own music, not sure about the licensing thing for that though, it wasn't such an issue back in the day. I remember one young lady who was, well, visually not to my liking at all, but she always had the best songs, Sisters of Mercy, Ministry, that sort of thing.

As far as nudity and alcohol, this is entirely dependent on the jurisdiction. In Honolulu in the early 90s, anything but penetration went, and there was a full bar. In some other places, clothing may be optional, but the dancers can't display their genitalia, leading to certain poses only occurring when the panties are on, and some places ban nudity entirely, so the performances have to take place in lingerie, swimsuits, hot pants, and things like that. In a club that allows nudity, a dancer will typically perform three songs in a set. In song one, her (never been to a male strip club, sorry) clothes usually stay on, with her top coming off at the end of the first song. The second song is topless, and the third is when she'll ditch whatever she's wearing on the bottom.

Dancers usually wear a garter belt on one leg for tips to be placed in, and depending (as always) on local laws, they may be allowed to use their breasts to take a bill that the client is holding in his teeth. A particularly generous client may turn his chair around and lean back, so that the back of his head is resting on the edge of the stage, and crease a bill lengthwise so that it rests on his nose, for the dancer to pluck off of his face with her buttocks. Some customers will also show off by "making it rain," showering the dancer with money by dropping a large number of bills on a dancer as she lays on the stage.

The dancers are not usually employees of the club, but in fact have to pay to work there. I'm told this shields the club from certain liability laws, means they don't have to provide benefits, workman's comp, things like that.

As far as "extra" services go, I've never heard any credible stories of them being offered, but I'm sure it happens. One thing that one of my friends was fond of though was paying for a polaroid with a dancer. I think they cost him around $25 bucks apiece, but he was quite fond of his collection of snapshots of him with well-known (at the time) adult film stars sitting naked in his lap with all of their goodies on display.

Additional on lap dances, private dances, and the "Champagne VIP Lounge": Lap dances are generally available at the customer's table, last for one song, and are fairly inexpensive ($10-20 was what I remember). Lap dances are generally one-way touching only, meaning that the customer has to keep his hands at his sides, but the dancer is free to let her hands (and other body parts) go wherever she pleases them to. Private dances take place in booths that are usually off in a corner somewhere. The booths aren't enclosed, security needs to be able to get there quickly if there's a problem, but the sightlines are generally obstructed so you don't have to worry about someone else watching you, and you aren't getting a free show by watching another dancer and her customer. Some areas allow two-way touching in private dances, and a skilled dancer will always manage to keep any part of herself she doesn't want (or isn't all to have) touched just out of reach, while simultaneously redirecting the customer's attention to somewhere more agreeable to her. This sort of dance is generally quite a bit more expensive, running probably $60-100 or more for three songs. I've never been to the "Champagne VIP Lounge," but the DJs always tout it as a place where anything goes. I've heard that this isn't true, and I'm pretty sure the city would crack down if it were, however if your thing is to spend $200 on a twelve dollar bottle of California Sparkling so that you can have a pretty girl talk to you for half an hour, more power to you.

Bouncers are big. Bouncers are big big guys in clothes that are chosen to accentuate that. They're very polite, call everyone "sir", and there's always one stationed at any point where a customer might get the idea he could break a rule or two. Bathroom door, by the dressing room, especially by the entrance to the private booths, you will pass by someone who looks like a bank vault door, and he'll tell you "Have a nice time, sir" in a very friendly voice that will help remind you, once you're back in the dark little booth with Amber or Chantelle or Bilquis that you are free to do not a single thing more than she says you can.

Stripper glitter: Strippers always wear this body glitter that will stick to your clothes and skin, and won't wash off completely for a couple of showers. You had to go to the place because an old friend was in town, and he paid for the dance, just remember that line.

That's about all I can think of now, and I'm already trying not to think about how much I know about this.

    Office the next morning.

"So it looks like you had a good weekend Dave."

    "Yeah".

    "Somebodies birthday party?"

"Nope. Got glitter bombed by a stripper."

@Lewdog : I don't usually watch uncut versions of anything. xD I watched one uncut movie and I couldn't figure out why it was uncut or what the improvement was supposed to be so I never bothered with others.

@Iain Aschendale : Thank you for the information! I've read those articles previously, but they held little information I didn't already know on some level. Plus, it's Cracked and even their opinion pieces can stretch the truth a bit. I'll take a look around Reddit, though. I didn't think about them because I've never been on the site.

It seems a little strange that they don't get paid, but only because a company isn't required to offer benefits if you're a part-time employee (below 32 hours a week). Now, they can't get out of worker's compensation, at least I think so.

@Cave Troll : xD I love that scenario. It could actually work for the story.

    1. What kind of music would be played? Would words be included or would the music be strictly instrumental?

Just standard chart pop stuff. It doesn't really matter, though, because nobody's listening to it.

    2. Would there be the potential for "extra services"?

It depends on the place. In a lot of joints even asking will get you thrown out by a gorilla dressed as a penguin. Even in places where prostitution is legal, that's a whole different licence.

    3. What would the establishment look like? Or potentially look like?

Dark. That's the one constant in those places. It's always dark.

    4. What kind of shows could be put on?

Naked chicks dancing. That's all anybody is there to see. In a lot of places girls go and dance at tables or booths to small groups, rather than the big floor show you see on TV.

Any other information would be helpful! Thank you in advance!
