[Submissions CLOSED] WF's 10th Anniversary Writing Contest

Discussion in '10th Anniversary Contest' started by Steerpike, Jun 2, 2016.

Supporters of WritingForums.org are pleased to announce the

    contest-small.png

This is your chance to showcase your story-writing talents and compete against your fellow forum members for prizes as we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of WritingForums.org.

Write a short story of between 1000 and 7500 words involving the number 10, to honor the ten years that we've been on the web. You can interpret this requirement as broadly as you like, with the number 10 playing an explicit role in your story, or a more nuanced role, as you see fit. All genres are welcome.

To enter the contest, you must be a member of WritingForums.org at the time of this posting, and you must post your story in the 10th Anniversary Contest sub-forum no later than midnight PST on the evening of June 26, 2016. Each story should be in its own thread, and should include the story's TITLE and WORD COUNT in the title of the thread.

The easiest way to post your entry is by clicking here.

Stories will be judged on the following criteria:

    Entertainment
    Technical Ability
    Originality
Creative use of the Number 10

Winners will be announced Sunday, July 10, 2016. Prizes will be awarded as follows:

    First Place: $75
    Second Place: $50
    Third Place: $25
Please note that you must have a Paypal account to receive prize money.

Our Judges, Komposten, Lifeline, Steerpike, Tenderiser, and Wreybies, will read each story as an anonymous entry and award points for each of the criteria, above. The stories with the highest point totals will be the winners. Ties will be decided by a vote of the Judges.

Special thanks to Jannert, Komposten, Lifeline, Tenderiser, and Steerpike for contributing prize money to this contest.

Sharpen your pencils, fill up your pens, and warm up your typing fingers! Let's go.

The image in the OP isn't showing. I had that happen a couple days ago trying to post a screen shot and had to put it on the imgur image sharing site for it to work.

"Each story will be its own thread, and should include the story's TITLE and WORD COUNT in the title of the thread."

Can't someone make a contest entry thread with anonymous replies? It would be perceived more fairly if the entries were anonymous.

A specific sub-forum will be setup for this contest in the coming few days, and all threads posted within that sub-forum will be automatically anonymised. So no need to worry about that. :)

So much better. I'm a happy camper. :D

But you should edit this from the OP before anyone accidentally posts a story in a new thread:

Thanks, @Komposten. I think Daniel mentioned yesterday that he would set up the forum for us. Might take some time. Once that happens, you or Wreybies should move the announcement there, or, alternatively, we can repost it. We are also going to make this more visible via a banner or something, I believe.

Am I allowed to submit if I don't have a Paypal account? If I don't care about the prize money and don't expect it, can I still contribute?

Yes, but I truly do not care. I don't expect any money and I'm not quite 18 yet (though very close now) so I don't know if I'm legally able to set up one.

The only thing you really need for a Paypal account is an email address.

You need a checking account to verify your paypal account.

In the off chance I win, not that I think I stand much of one considering there are far better writers than I entering this. Can I allocate the muns to another member? Cause there is no way I could open a Paypal account, cause I don't has a checking account. Been cash and carry since I have been on my own. :p

Guys, in case I win the next powerball, not saying I'm going to win it, but in case I do, would it be OK with everyone here if I donated all the millions of dollars I win to all of you? Please don't think of me as a good person or anything because I would give you all the money- this is only if I happen to win it.

I think you should because you are such an amazing writer, not to mention a fantastic person in general.

P.S. Will PM you my PayPal details.

@Tenderiser You are adorable, and make me want to pinch your little cheek and go: Awe. :superlaugh:

I appreciate the peptalk, but have you actually read anything I've written? Oh well might as well give it a go, since you buttered me up.

P.S. I haven't really a direction to drag a prompt like "10", but I might be able to whip something up out of thin air.

P.P.S. Why are acting like we are spies exchanging secret classified information?o_O

I'm pretty sure you guys can open a PayPal account without having a checking account or a credit card. And you can then use the funds in th as t PayPal account to buy things. There are limitations on unverified accounts, but you should be able to use it for basics, I think.
