    Success At Last!

Discussion in 'Publishing' started by EdFromNY, Apr 3, 2020.

I've waited a very long time to post this. I've just been offered a publishing contract for my police procedural/thriller, Past Grief. Since I don't have an agent, I need to find someone to review the contract in case I've missed something (I'm not a lawyer, although I've occasionally been accused of talking like one). But this is a VERY big day in my writing life.

Congratulations! If you contact an agent with an offer in hand, they will gladly step in and make sure you're getting a fair and good deal. Sure, they'll get their cut, but I would do it. I think a literary agent would be better than a lawyer under your circumstances. You can probably get a really good agent right now. Good luck.

Update: I am now officially under contract, and the scheduled release date for the book is March 18, 2021. Could not be more excited!

Thanks very much. My route is probably not typical, because of the nature of my story: In order to solve a mass shooting, a determined yet compassionate detective must cajole the only eyewitness, a transgender woman, into testifying, and root out the mastermind of the crime who is obstructing her investigation and gaslighting her.

After the book has been released and I see how things go, I'll post the entire process I went through.

    Hi, Nick. Welcome.

No, I signed with Back Rose Writing, a small indie publisher that accepts unagented submissions. They participated in an online pitch fest held by careerauthors.com. I pitched them and they asked for the full ms. Once the book is out, I'll post the long, sordid tale of my journey.

I'd be disappointed if it wasn't sordid, haha. But seriously, congrats Ed. Major milestone few achieve.
