    Sumptuary laws across time...

Discussion in 'Setting Development' started by Wreybies, Aug 28, 2015.

An interesting article with a fun spin on the topic of sumptuary laws.

Just food for thought for you period piece writers and creators of old-timie settings from days of yore.:agreed:

The true display of one's wealth?
Being able to devote the time and energy to piss and moan enough to make dumbass laws.

This is something very often missed by writers and film makers. Such laws existed all over the world and were often very strict.

I wonder if some people think it will be seen as unrealistic because not all that many people know about them.

I think they sound unrealistic because they're just so asinine.

I suddenly find myself thinking of the fairly recent Barneys racism issues and stop-and-frisk policy, in this context.
