Banzai, can you contact him about me too, please? I've PMed him, and he PMed back a while back, but then it never came through. I'm fine with waiting, but just in case, it might help to have you contact him.
For those of you who subscribed, sorry for the delay. This used to be automated, but when we updated our software this portion stopped working. You can still subscribe, but once you do so send me a PM and/or an email at support@writingforums.org.
Just to re-emphasize: If you subscribe to this, you must contact me to enable the subscription. Send me a private message or email. Emails to support@writingforums.org will be answered much faster. Thanks for subscribing!
Okay, I believe I have fixed the problem. Subscriptions should now be automatically added and removed. Who wants to test it out?
I have a few suggestions for supporters, but I'm not sure how much trust owners and moderators can give their members. If you like them, you may feel free to either comment them or disagree with the ones I suggested. Close and open your own threads: It would be nice if supporters were allowed to open and close their own threads, giving them a little bit more freedom to the website. Post events on the calendar: I'm not sure if members can post events on the calender, but if they can't it would be nice if supporters could. Larger avatars: It would be nice if supporters could enlarge their avatars beyond the limited Pixels, as long as they aren't annoying avatars nor inappropriate ones that may violate the rules of this site. Delete your own posts, except for the posts in the review room. While members cannot delete their own posts, it would be nice if supporters could, especially if they make one that is no longer necessary. Change the color of your username. The onliy exception to this one is that the colors for moderators (blue-green?), administrators (red?), reviewers (Not sure what color is a reviewer's username) and global moderators (not sure what color is a global moderator's username) and other special colors for the moderators and adimistrators are reserved, and members cannot use those. And can create their own sub-forum private topic. Only owners and moderators should be able to create these for the supporters, while the supporters cannot create their own (unless they are an admistrator or regulary have permission to create sub-forums). These might encourage some people to support the website. But then again, the owners and moderator of this site may or may not implement the suggestions I written. I am delighted to see members supporting the site, and I enjoy it myself.
I think I accidentally tested it out 3 days ago. Ummm....it works fine. I donated the same night I joined and it all worked instantly. Sorry I didn't realize that you weren't sure it would:redface:
Daniel I would like to contribute but I have had problems with Pay Pal. Is there any other way of contributing?
What are the benefits of private reviews as opposed to regular forum reviews? It's still published online, right? Therefore it is still not eligible for publishing elsewhere, right? Just wondering...
The list of supporters is short enough, and clearly identified. That area of the site is therefore not in any way open to the general public. In truth, I don't see a lot of value to the private critique aspect. Critique is best done on pieces you have no intention of publishing, and with exposure to as many well-reasoned opinions as possible. I'm a Supporter for the sole reason that I believe in the value of the site, and therefore I choose to contribute financially along with the time I invest.
Daniel I would like to take out a subscription but have had some cyber financial problems and would like to make the payment through a local store Pay Point. Is this possible, if so please supply account details and sum required for twelve months in British pounds. I live in Newcastle upon Tyne England
If an ignore feature is involved I will write two checks.....how do I donate and can I donate without getting a zippy color ?
The benefit of private critiques would simply be that you'd have that option. Some members would prefer private critiques with a few individuals as opposed to the Writing Workshop. We do accept cash or check donations through the mail. PM me for the address. We can also provide supporter features without the color and badge.
I've upgraded the pricing to be more accurate. This involved raising the USD amount and lowering the amount of other currencies (due to the dollar's value decrease). I've also added additional features. Supporters may now have a 5000 message inbox, use invisible mode, upload 250 album pictures (instead of 50) and can customize their blog style. We're open for additional suggestions for supporter features. Please see the original post, which I've edited, for complete details.
Donating just a quick question, why is it that for 1month as a supporter it's $5 US, $6 canadian and $7 australian when the australian currency is stronger than both by almost 10%. so what im asking is, why is it cheaper to donate as an american $7 AUD = $7.7USD if you were wondering. Shadow Reeves (im still going to donate - i just want to know)
I am guessing that the prices were set up when the AUD was below $1.00USD mark. Would be good to see some revisions in the system though
You sounded in need of something positive, Daniel, so you have some support from me, little as it is.
Thanks Ginger! That was very nice of you. Your contribution (and that of all other Supporters) actually helps a lot. 100% of Supporter donations go to maintaining the site. Right now that includes paying for the server (costs which are, unfortunately, rising every few months). Your donations means that's less I have to pay out of pocket to maintain WritingForums.org. Hopefully one day we'll be able to pay for all server costs with Supporter membership and eventually use these funds to expand the site with custom features and contest. Thanks again Ginger. You too jannert (if you see this) - our other recent supporter. And thanks to everyone else who's became a Supporter or otherwise donated or contributed to WF. I really really appreciate it.
