So, I just got back from a midnight showing of Sweeney Todd, and I'm on the verge of collapse, so I'll make this short (for me): It was the best movie I have ever seen. I want the soundtrack so that those glorious songs can grace my ears whenever I please. The movie is both dramatic and hilarious, and by the third song I felt I got my nine bucks worth. The staging and lighting are brilliant, and the movie is as gorgeous as the songs, in fact, I don't think that computer generated imagery was used for anything beyond the credits and a little touch-up. Most of the effects were done with simple pipes and orange liquid (The filter was the same or similar to the one from Corpse Bride, dull and gray. The blood shows quite well). The ending made me weep, so melancholic and tragic, like Macbeth. Indeed, it follows the Shakespearean Tragedy tradition of "Everyone dies." Brilliant.
Looked pretty interesting, but I was a little weary of the fact that they sing. But I'm always up for something new and different.
Trust me Val, the singing is the best part. That and him talking to his razors and killing people. And Mrs. Lovett's "thrift", if you get my drift.
I saw Sweeney Todd last night and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The movie's been nominated for a number of Golden Globe awards and I hope it wins!
I have never heard of this movie but is it a musical horror? I love musical but razors and killing just doesn't compute in my brain. maybe I will take a look at it when it is in the rental places or on PPV
