No need to apologize. I was gobsmacked when I saw how the whole thing goes here with antibiotics. I've stopped talking to people about it because the reaction I get just makes things worse for me. I've gone so far as to explain on a dry erase board (drawings, explanations of probability, the whole nine) what happens when you misuse antibiotics, leaving only the strongest examples of a given bacteria to flourish after the person has stopped taking his/her meds before they should. All of this assuming the person was even suffering from a malady that would respond to antibiotics.

I can only deal with people staring at their shoes as they shift their feet around so many times, with that look on the person's face that says I kinda' get what you are saying, but I'm gonna' keep doing it anyway 'cause you used big words I don't understand.

There has been occasional talk of changing the way antibiotics are made available to the local public, to make a doctor's prescription necessary, but this always gets pushed aside by those who would argue that the economy in Puerto Rico cannot support the cost to the individual that this practice would create.

Health risk to the public [IMG] Economic cost to the individual.

    Luls..

    Emune

    Hahahahaha.

    /clears throat

    /apologises.

    Yeah anyway
so all my friends and I are paranoid about spontaneously contracting this flu .. so we're pretty much refusing to leave the house (edit: not that, that is any different from usual).. I hold the media's epic ability at engendering panic responsible.

And even plasmids which can cause lateral transmission of genetic material are only found in bacteria and some eukaryotic organisms. Not viruses.

FOUND THE CURE FOR SWINE FLU!!!

I've been eating bacon with breakfast, lunch and supper. And...I haven't caught swine flu. Therefore, eat plenty of bacon to build your resistance against swine flu!

    OOoohh pffffft.

This all sounds like one big sack of ****e.

There was a maaaassive panic about Bird flu, foot and mouth desease, and now this.
It'll blow over (haha) i'm sure, and all the pigs will stop sneezing.
It's amazing how things continue to be blown totally out of proportion so quickly..

I like the paper's ability to not spread panic. Walked past a stall today and the Daily Mail screamed:

    SWINE FLU IS HERE

    Subtle.

A quick aside, have you heard about the product Baconnaise?

    Bacon. Flavored. Mayonnaise.

I mean, bacon has a tendency to make everything better. But come on, the line should be drawn somewhere.

I'm thinking that anyone who thinks that Baconnaise is a good idea is probably already fat.

You may go back to your regularly scheduled panicking.

    Punny.

I truly hope everyone is merely being overly cautious, and this devolves into th "Whine Flu." But then the danger is that the next global viral outbreak is not taken seriously enough.

(Copy/Pasted from another conversation about Swine Flu--oh yeah, baby, you know you like my mad copy/paste skillz.)

I don't know, I think it's good that the world governments are taking this seriously, and maybe even good that the news media is putting the scare into people. If it'll make everyone wash their hands and take more vitamin C, then it's done its job. I think the negative thing that will come from it is all the hypochondriacs who will crowd the hospitals because they have scratchy throats.

I'm sure that this is something I want to be wary of. I plan on using my paid time off to visit my mom in Virginia this summer, and I know I don't want to cut into that by staying home sick. But I'm not going to buy a gas mask and start stockpiling food just yet.

Is this your own words copied from another location? If not, you need to identify the source (Sorry).

Oh My God. I wouldn't be able to maintain self control and not start screaming at them, or attempt to inflict massive violence on their persons.

Because extensively drug resistant tuberculosis is so cheap to deal with.

I was wrong. The bird flu is H5N1 not H2N1. Just wanted to clarify!

BTW! The first confirmed death from the swine flu has been in Texas. A 23-month-old toddler.
