    Synonyms Sought

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by WiltChamberlain, Oct 17, 2017.

Hi, I am seeking synonyms for the noun "embeddedness."

    Thus far I have:

    1. entrenchment

    2. irremovablity

Thank you. Will accept coinage if needed.

did you try the Online thesaurus? I'm always googling for synonyms when I can't remember the word I'm actually looking for.

Thank you. But as much as I appreciate the suggestion and the link to go with it, I have consulted several thesauruses already, that specific one among them. Hence this desperate appeal for human assistance :)

Can you give us any more idea of the connotation you're going for? Or use it in a sentence? Even a blank, like "He couldn't move it from the cliff face due to its _______"

Another option is to reword the sentence so that it's portraying the same thing, but you don't have to use "embeddedness" or any alternative. (Although surely synonyms for the word "embedded" is what you want?)

For instance, if this was your sentence, you could use another word for "embeddedness". Or you could reword it so that it says, "He couldn't move it from the cliff face due to how deeply it was set into the rock."

If we are talking metaphoric - as in the embeddedness of habit I'd be inclined to say 'ingrained'

'Embeddedness' is an ugly word, as are your current alternatives, 'entrenchment' and 'irremovability'.

I know that's not what you're asking and perhaps I'm talking out of line, but I'd go with @Seren and reword it rather than use any of those monstrosities.

yeah that - all are words you'd only use in an essay, not in fiction Embedded is okay so the "way in which it was embedded" is probably preferable to embeddedness

Going from his other posts this is for his CV or proposal .... 21 posts since February nearly every one asking for a synonym

So since we almost certainly won't get a sample, I'd imagine something like "The embeddedness of binglebongle marketing in the culture of Acmecorps means that they are less likely to engage with the slippityslap model than their competitors"

In that case I'm definitely with Seren on a rephrase "the extent to which bingle bongle is embedded/ingrained in the culture of.. "

They aren't too pleasing to the ear nor do they look nice on the page. That's for sure! LOL!
