    The Vista Upgrade.

Discussion in 'Writing Software and Hardware' started by Raven, Apr 14, 2008.

Who's gone to Windows Vista and which version do you use. and do you prefare it to old XP. Personnally Vista Annuoys the hell out of me especially when it locks and asks you to allow or disallow everytime you do something.

I think our school is upgrading to Vista soon. The teachers allready have and they all hate it, but that's what happens when we are a cimputing school, we have to have the best computers.

I have XP, and I don't think I want to upgrade to Vista.

Vista is best summed up by the following cartoon:

I'm not a fan, I must say. Most of the upgrades, like with Office 07, are superficial graphical changes, which just make it more difficult to manage basic functions.

That said, since my laptop is dying, any replacement I get is probably going to have to come with it, so I shall have to face the dreaded upgrade soon. I shall miss good old XP.

That's a good idea Raven. The new laptop I'm looking at has two hard drives, so I may run Vista on one and XP on the other. My dad did that a while back with the desktop- XP professional for general use, and XP home for games. It worked quite well, as I recall.

You can still get XP anyways though can't you if you want it? Like you could get either version 2000 or XP a few years ago. anf funny cartoon :p

Windows 2000 should be avoided like the plague. And yes heather, you can still get XP. The thing is that most new PCs and laptops come with Vista pre-installed. You'd have to buy XP seperately and install it. And on a lot of them, I think uninstalling Vista voids the warranty.

Vista is far superior but Xp is nicer and much more user friendly.

As for windows 2000 I have to admit I never really liked that one. I like the old XP and spend most of my time using Xp mdeia centre version over the Vista Ultimate version. Which I might add is practically no different than Vista Home Premium except Ultmate costs about a £100 more than Premium. well £50 if you get the OEM.

Ermm, okay. I am so glad our old computer is clogging on still. I don't know how, it is like 6 years old now and makes a horrible noise every time it is turned on but my dad is adamant that we keep it till is goes BANG

Another problem with Vista is that it eats up a lot of memory. Unless it comes installed with a brand new machine, having Vista on pre-owned computers is not a very good idea.

Sadly or not, I'm still using Windows 98se. Will have to upgrade this summer as, well, it's about time and the advance of software requires it...and who knows how much longer the ol' computer will continue to function.

Not looking forward to Vista. I've not heard tons of good about it. My wife's computer has XP and it seems to do okay for her.

Really? As far as I'm concerned, I have my Vista upgrade, called Windows XP Professional.

But I'm curious - what, in your opinion, makes Vista superior?

Fair enough if you built up the system yourself. I thought you just got it because it was cheaper.

    And Ebuyer rules!

Lol i've had vista for quite a while now as it came preinstalled on my new laptop and I refuse to buy windows XP on principle because its so expensive and I don't want an illegal copy lol.

It wound me up no end when I first got it but its not so bad now, and i've found that I get a lot less crap (viruses, spyware and the like) because it locks up and asks your permission for everything whereas usually it would just install itself. Also, its easier to set up networks and my games seem to run better.

That feature annoyed me, thus, I disabled it. Hail to the chief.

    Speaking relatively, of course.

I am not your father... that I know of, anyway.

The only thing better about Vista is that it looks nice. However, with the installation of a new skin, XP can be quite sharp as well. It may be a bit more secure in comparison (what isn't?), but with the use of good firewalls and anti-virus software, it's not much of a change.

I used 2000 Professional, then XP Professional, and now I'm using Mac OSX. I'll never, ever go back to Microsoft Windows. Ever.

DO a Duel Boot. You get the best of both worlds.
